Not a helpful comment, Vet. Throughout that entire article there was not one mention of the Catholic Church. The author didn’t bash, belittle, or bemoan anything dealing with the RCC. He posted his ideas.
Your comment, on the other hand, does all of the above to include a personal attack on the author.
And it is wrong. John MacArthur, being a traditional protestant, would have no regard for the Catholic Church and some of its doctrines, nor would he give the RCC credit for writing the Bible, but those are not unusual or outrageous positions. They are called DISAGREEMENTS, and he has listed his reasons.
We bible believers tend to view the bible as a message brought to us by our Commander and delivered by a messenger. Once the Commander’s message is shown to be from him, then it is Him and His message that is to be followed and NOT any messenger who delivered the message.
Yes. I have noted in this thread that JM makes no mention at all of the Roman Catholic Church.
Yet he DOES mention "the church" in regards to how writings were received as Holy Scripture. I snipped the section in my post 59 and asked a simple question about it.
I will now ask: What church is he talking about? Where was it located then and now? Where is the record of what they did and who was involved?
The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Excellent description. Not lost on this old Soldier:)
