Conviction of sin is best described in the words:

My sins, my sins, my Savior,
How sad on Thee they fall.

Conviction of sin is one of the most uncommon things that ever happens to a person. It is the beginning of an understanding of God. Jesus Christ said that when the Holy Spirit came He would convict people of sin (see John 16:8). And when the Holy Spirit stirs a person’s conscience and brings him into the presence of God, it is not that person’s relationship with others that bothers him but his relationship with God— “Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight…” (Psalm 51:4). The wonders of conviction of sin, forgiveness, and holiness are so interwoven that it is only the forgiven person who is truly holy. He proves he is forgiven by being the opposite of what he was previously, by the grace of God. Repentance always brings a person to the point of saying, “I have sinned.” The surest sign that God is at work in his life is when he says that and means it. Anything less is simply sorrow for having made foolish mistakes— a reflex action caused by self-disgust.

The entrance into the kingdom of God is through the sharp, sudden pains of repentance colliding with man’s respectable “goodness.” Then the Holy Spirit, who produces these struggles, begins the formation of the Son of God in the person’s life (see Galatians 4:19). This new life will reveal itself in conscious repentance followed by unconscious holiness, never the other way around. The foundation of Christianity is repentance. Strictly speaking, a person cannot repent when he chooses— repentance is a gift of God. The old Puritans used to pray for “the gift of tears.” If you ever cease to understand the value of repentance, you allow yourself to remain in sin. Examine yourself to see if you have forgotten how to be truly repentant.

That is a very good question. I am sorry if others are not secure. I am sorry if they have to strain at life, hoping they can work their way to Heaven, then sink into the tomb, without one ray of hope for salvation. What a terrifying moment for millions, and what a sorry existence that must be. Those who try to establish their own righteousness, they are fallen from grace. Unfortunately, there are many cults out there, teaching this very thing. They need to give up that terrible pride, and do what the thread says, REPENT. Sound reasonable to you?

There is NO RECORD that the apostles "heard confessions" or that they believed they had the authority to do so Rome had no practice of oral confession to a priest for forgiveness until 1215

🙈🙈🙉 Yes, I am careful. Actually, I haven't seen them since the 80s, but I am thankful they told me the truth, and I was able to get out of a certain religion, that will remain unnamed, but perhaps you know what it was. 😇 I am comfortable in my security, and comfortable in my OSAS status. It is great. I don't waste time trying to establish my own righteousness. I am not fallen from grace. If others are not secure, it's on them, because they can be. Ok, if you will excuse me, I have people to preach to now. I need to help them become confident in their eternal security. They are happy with it. I am happy for them. Try it, you might like it. 😟😦😄😄😀

Rather than the mistaken idea that repentance means "turning from sin", the deeper sense is that repentance is "changing ones mind". From Strong's Concordance" http://biblehub.com/greek/3340.htm:

So He clearly showed up how to acknowledge our responsibility for being sinners....the OSAS theory is nonsense at best and dangerous at worst.

Godly repentance is what brings us to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus said whosoever believed in Him would HAVE everlasting life. The theory that the OSAS theory is nonsense and dangerous IS not only nonsense it is blasphemous and therefore dangerous because it calls Jesus a liar as well as the Holy Spirit who moved holy men of God to write the great and precious promises that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption once we come to faith in Christ. I'd be seriously careful lest God call one to account for preaching an accursed gospel - one that makes salvation conditional on a believer's works instead of by faith.

It is called the "Sin of Presumption." The Pharisees and Sadducees had it and so does anyone that believes in OSAS.

The first word in bold above is “bebaion,” the idea of confirmation, frequently used in commercial settings to confirm a bargain. Which of course makes sense of the remaining terms used here, which are also elements of a secured contract.

The second word in bold above is “sphragisamenos,” being sealed is to be marked by the signature, signet ring, or other unique proof of identity, that we belong to God, and this sealing is done by God, who is the one taking action in this verse. We do not and cannot seal ourselves. We do not, by our own powers, have access to God’s “signet ring.”

The third bolded word above is “arrabona,” and indicates what we might loosely refer to as earnest money, but in Hebrew culture conveys more the idea of a pledge of covenant, a security given as a guarantee that the deal will go through, though we only receive part payment at the beginning. See ערב for the related Hebrew stem indicating “pledge.”

Christ instituted a sacrament covering this subject...The sacrament of reconciliation or penance brings Catholics back to a state of grace after forgiving their sins when they confess those sins and show true repentance for them.

.When we know how unworthy we are, we keep turning to Christ in gratitude for His Love, because without it we would be doomed to eternal Hell.

We can be aware and do our best to resist temptation, but even then we will have cause to repeat Paul's lament in Romans:

14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful natured a slave to the law of sin.
