He's wrong because you said he's wrong??? So what is the Roman Catholic Church's real title???
If someone mentions Roman Catholic Church, any where in the world, there's no doubt in anyone's mind which religion is being referred to...So yes, it IS known as the Roman Catholic Church...
Is there anything in this piece that you can legitimately refute???
No. He’s wrong because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, both with respect to the Catholic Church or with respect to what Catholics think about the Pope. So, like that subset of Protestants who combine ignorance with sophistry, he sets up straw men erected on falsehoods to discourage those who follow him from thought and to obstruct their acquisition of knowledge.
This is not a trial. And in what system must the accused show his accuser is guilty of error beyond a reasonable doubt?
My Ruthenian and Ukrainian Catholic friends, who are in communion with the Holy See, would be all up in my face if I called them “Roman Catholics.” The Church specified as those in communion with the bishop of Rome includes more than the Roman Catholic Church.
And, though non-Catholics seem to find it hard to believe, we read the Bible and encourage reading it. And we are well aware not only of Peter’s failings but of those of his successors.
Isaih 28 is your friend here. Taking refuge in lies does not usually end well. And being unfaithful in small things doesn’t suggest fidelity in large ones. If this writer cannot trouble to get his small facts right, why should I trust him in his great claims?
The term "Roman Catholic" was invented by Anglicans (Protestants, that is), who wanted to claim that they were "Catholic," but not "Roman" (by which they meant not in obedience to the See of Rome).
The Church simply calls herself the Catholic Church. "Catholic" comes from the Greek for "of the whole" ... the Church for the whole human race.
Byzantine Catholics (who, unlike the Anglicans, *are* in obedience to the See of Rome) aren't going to answer to "Roman Catholic" because they aren't "Roman," they're Greek.
I have a much bigger problem with this quote:
What did the Lord Jesus say about calling men by this title (Matthew 23 :9)? -----------------------------------------
No man on earth should be called "father" except your earthly father.
Except that is NOT what the Lord Jesus said. Don't tell me you believe in the literal interpretation of Scripture, and then paraphase Scripture as saying something different from what it actually says.
Mt 23:9 (KJV) reads:
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Do you read any clause in there like "except for your earthly father"? It ain't in there! The man misquotes Scripture to strengthen his point; he's a false teacher.
The leaders of the church (Roman Catholic religious system) did not see a need to translate the Bible into the common language of the people.
Even the preface to the 1611 KJV admits that this is wrong. And Martin Luther said:
"We are obliged to yield many things to the Papists--that with them is the Word of God, which we received from them; otherwise we should have known nothing at all about it."
There are many other errors in this piece.
