How Christians Will Know They Can Join Hands With Rome
The Cripplegate, New Generation of Non-Conformists ^ | October 29, 2014 | Eric Davis, Pastor since 2008 of Cornerstone Church, Jackson Hole, WY

With Reformation Day coming up, this is a good time to recall why the Reformers departed from Roman Catholicism. In our day especially, it seems that many Christians have history-amnesia when it comes to the importance of what God did through the Reformers. During the Reformation, great confusion existed regarding what was, and was not, the true church of Christ. Rome had asserted itself as the true church for centuries, and continues to do so today. However, as the Reformers recognized then, Christians must follow in step today by recalling that joining hands with Rome is a departure from Christ.

To be clear, this is not to say that everyone who sits in a Roman Catholic church is not a Christian. What it is saying is that several changes must occur before Roman Catholicism, by the book, can be considered biblical Christianity. And the men and women of the Reformation understood this, hence their necessary break with Rome. In their case, and ours, joining Christ necessitates breaking with Rome and coming under Christ means coming out from under Rome.

Christians will know that it is time to join hands with Rome when it does the following:

1. Renounce the Papacy.

Correction, judged by scripture. The Catholic Church stands condemned.

Just one more thought ...To be “holy” is to be set aside..one can not “set themselves aside”

**All Rominist all the time..**

Not according to this thread — which is more like a tract pamphlet in my opinion.

I can’t set myself aside ? What does that have to do with anything ?

God commands that I set aside the Lord’s Day for the Lord.

If I go about my normal work and recreations, I am ignoring the Lord’s Day.

>>You are judgmental, against the commandment of God himself.<<

John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

How are we to determine who false prophets are if we do not judge?

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Lastly why are you judging what she is doing if you believe judging is wrong? Isn't that rather hypocritical?

They simply ignored it. Even circumcision was ignored while the people died off in the desert before going into the Holy Land. Moses then had the children of those who died circumcised. The LAW has several things to say about prostitution as it is forbidden, yet Solomon made a judgement between two of prostitutes. He never condemned them.

let's also remember that part of the written law was misplaced for many years till found in the overhaul and maintenance of the Temple.

Please show from scripture that Sunday is called the Lord’s day. Wait, let me save you some time. It doesn’t. The only reference to the “Lord’s day” is in Revelation and that is a period of time we refer to as the Tribulation.

It would appear you have fallen for the twisted scripture of the Catholic Church.

Please show where anyone has ever said here that true faith would not produce good works.

I do believe that true faith will produce good works.

But since you did not include my comment to the contrary I am not sure what you are referring to .

I’m sensing in your posts a complete lack of guidance or enlightenment by the Holy Spirit. Either that is the case or I am misreading you intent.

You quoted John Gill.

In his A Complete Body of Doctrinal and Practical Divinity, etc., Vol III, 1796...

on pages 397...398

at II. What manner the Lord’s Day is to be regarded or observed,

he pretty much agrees with the Westminster Confession perspective I quoted above.

Do you go to Church on Sunday or observe the Lord’s Day in some way, or do you ignore it ?

If you do observe it, how, and on what Biblical passages do base your practice of observing it ?

Sal, you know that the the “Religion forum “ of FR has become a proselytizing tool of Rome.. not much real discussion or debate going on... sad really...this used to be such a lively place for discussing religion

I find that very insulting.

I don't observe the Lord's Day to gain my salvation. Although you do not explicitly accuse me of this, you imply that this is what my views demonstrate. Please cite where I said that I sought to gain my salvation by observing the Lord's Day. Please do not accuse me of such things.

I observe the Lord's Day out of joyful obedience to Christ and God's Holy Word.

The Lord's Day is a great respite for me; a relief from my works.

That is no funny. It's fact. I trust no man's teaching unless I can substantiate in scripture. Catholics would be wise to follow that concept.
