The pontiff plans to issue a rare and controversial plea for Catholics to consider the environment. Recent polls show his message just might resonate.
Pope Francis has ambitious environmental plans for 2015. Come March, he will deliver a 50 to 60-page edict urging his 1.2 billion Catholic followers to take action against climate change. The Pontiff will make his announcement during his visit to the Philippian city of Tacloban, which was ravaged by typhoon Haiyan, which killed thousands in 2013.
But within his global congregation, many conservative Catholics are expected to oppose the popes environmental views.
The message comes months in advance of the next United Nations climate meeting, which is slated to begin November 2015 in Paris. The popes lead scientific adviser Bishop Marcelo Sorondo, said that the popes message to his bishops, called an encyclical, is supposed to influence world leaders as they make their final recommendations after 20 years of negotiating how to reduce global carbon emissions, The Guardian reported. The idea is to convene a meeting with leaders of the main religions to make all people aware of the state of our climate, Sorondo said to Cafod, the Catholic development agency, of the popes plans....

Atheists love the Pope when he agrees with them.
Tell ya what Francis, when you finally get the priesthood to quit having oral sex with the alter boys then maybe you can tackle global warming or climate change or whatever they call it.
:)
Not you in particular, but too many people are conflating "encyclical" with "infallibility." There is no doctrine of the Catholic Church that states that what's written in an encyclical is binding OR infallible ---- especially when it is on topics like geo-climatology and meta-economics rather than faith and morals.
First thing, he talks too much. I pray for him to get the Gift of Zechariah. Unable to talk until he's got something God-pleasing to say...
Concerned? Yeah, so am I. Let's dedicate 2015 to praying for the Pope.
I do a couple of times a day. Thanks for reminding me again.
I love this Pope. He as I undersand is only Infallible when teaching on Faith and Morals and when teaching Ex Catheda.
( From the Chair of Peter).
It depends on whose Scientists you choose to believe.
Our World has been in a cooling period for a good number of Years. Thanks for your Note.
JARRING CHORD
NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms
Just as hallowed US institutions such as the presidency can be taken over by Communists, Marxists, and Socialists....so unfortunately can the Vatican.
And AFTER he was elected Pope, JPII realized he didn’t know much about economics, and “hired” a world-class free-market economist to tutor him! Wish I could remember the guy’s name.
And Galileo really got in trouble for some theological propositions, not scientific propositions.
I’ve been banned from the Facebook pages of Dolan, Gomez, and Cupich for posting this link:
Reports are that Francis is intervening personally in the selection of bishops, especially in the Spanish-speaking world, bypassing the prepared lists and the nuncios, and appointing “horrible” priests. Reportedly, Cupich was one of these Francis picks, promoted by Wuerl, Dolan, and O’Malley.
Pray to Saint Zechariah! Excellent idea.
I'm shaking my head sadly.
