Why should he? None of the officers killed were Catholic and Sharpton probably has more influence in NYC-proper anyway (unfortunately). Support for the Catholic Churce in NY is a mile wide and an inch deep.

True, but historically, NYPD and NYFD were made of up of primarily Catholics of Irish or Italian decent. My guess is recent years to trying to diversify those departments has made it less of an exclusive ethnic Catholic dominated department [both of them] but my guess is a significant majority of NYPD [> 60 to 70%] are Catholic. So politically, Sharpton reaching out to Cardinal Dolan, who likely has more contacts with the rank and file and leaders of NYPD is a good political move by Sharpton, in fact, a shrewd one. And No, I do not share Sharpton’s politics but recognize a strategic political move when I see one.
