Speaking at the National Action Networks Christmas dinner on Thursday, Rev. Al Sharpton said he is working with Cardinal Timothy Dolan on something big that will unite New York City in light of recent discord with the NYPD.
I talked with Cardinal Dolan yesterday, and after the first of the year were talking about doing something big to bring the city together, Sharpton said without elaborating. He also called for prayers for the families of NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, who were killed last week by a gunman who invoked the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
Sharpton condemned any acts of retribution, and instead stressed reform, adding that his movement is not anti-police. The family of Eric Garner was in attendance at the dinner.
True, but historically, NYPD and NYFD were made of up of primarily Catholics of Irish or Italian decent. My guess is recent years to trying to diversify those departments has made it less of an exclusive ethnic Catholic dominated department [both of them] but my guess is a significant majority of NYPD [> 60 to 70%] are Catholic. So politically, Sharpton reaching out to Cardinal Dolan, who likely has more contacts with the rank and file and leaders of NYPD is a good political move by Sharpton, in fact, a shrewd one. And No, I do not share Sharpton’s politics but recognize a strategic political move when I see one.
wonder if sharpton is charging donal the usual fee or giving him a special cleric’s discount?
If Dolan agrees to this, he should be run outta town!
I take back what I said: they did NOT invite either Clinton or Kerry because of their position on abortion. Forgot about that. Mostly I think the AES dinner board likes to show that the RC has some political sway. in this case, I believe Dolan was totally wrong to invite Obama.
And who ever thought that BHO could be witty? He absolutely cannot stand to have to make fun of himself.
That makes me SICK!!!
Sharpton is a race pimp IMHO he is in it for the money and the fame
Sharpton and Dolan, two big time democrat donors, so what else is new?
Birds of a feather flock together...
