Probably because it only exists on FR. Certainly not in any Mormon church I’ve ever attended. Don’t you people have anything better to do than invent fake holidays? At least you could make it funny, maybe something with Brigham Young and the twelve wives of Christmas. Now THAT’s got potential :)

I don’t personally have knowledge of the Smithmas but, I do in their prayers.
They Exalt Smith quite fervently.
Maybe I don’t understand the context but, it is odd..to me.
If I think on it long enough I might recall, somewhat, what was said but, there were some other Christians and a couple Jewish friends and they didn’t understand it one bit.
I tried to explain it but, I have only read the BOM, PoGP and a decent portion of the D&C.
My best explanation was that it a cultural and unique to the Mormon experience. Not something, probably, that is written anywhere.
And maybe a way to remind them of the origin of their belief and a bit of “Testimony” which I heard quite a bit. We use to “testify” in the Baptist church but, not so much anymore.
