When asked whether they felt an issue was immoral, morally acceptable, or not a moral issue, heres a breakdown of how many Mormons declared that certain activities were morally wrong.
Drinking alcohol: 54% Having an abortion: 74% Sex between unmarried adults: 79% Practicing polygamy: 86%
Hold the phone. 86% of Mormons say that polygamy is morally wrong?*
It seems that Mormons hate polygamy even more than abortion. Remember that abortion is discussed in the church handbook as a sin that requires serious repentance and sometimes disciplinary action on the part of the church. Abortion is permissible only in rare circumstances.
Ive certainly never heard a Mormon say that abortion is an ideal practice that were not living now but will someday be living in heaven. The thought is preposterous. And thats a strange disconnect, because despite contemporary Mormons even greater revulsion at polygamy, we do sometimes (less so in the 21st century, but more commonly a couple of generations ago), hear it extolled as the order of heaven, as explained in Doctrine & Covenants 132.

Can it be before school....lol
that is ONE CRAZY video!!!
Wonder what % of Mormans are against drinking coffee?
i don’t care when they kidnap me...the sooner the better!
As long as it’s consenting adults participating in these relationships I don’t see the problem. But if it’s moslem child-brides or the FLDS whackjobs going after little girls then that’s 100% different.
But if adults are choosing this then anymore I don’t see a legal argument to prohibit it given that it effectively exists with the tolerance of adultery in our society. A man can have a wife and a family and then multiple mistresses and no one really says a thing about it. I doubt such a man could be prosecuted these days.
But if he merely calls these women his ‘wives’ then suddenly people get all upset.
What’s the difference?
consenting adults..... some schools are telling kids they are ready for sex at 12 or 13. So they can “marry” daddy too.
It's nonsense to try to find significance by comparing the numbers in this way - ie, "86% VERSUS 74%! WOW! *WOW* DID YOU HEAR THAT?!"
If you take a list of hot-button issues and try to relatively rank them via a poll among any group of religious conservatives, your results will vary over time, up and down, up and down, depending on what's "in the news" at any moment.
Every time the media screams about the latest school shooting, polls show support for gun control spiking upwards. Then they settle down. The cycle repeats endlessly. It's because it's "what's in the news" today.
When a ghoulish abortion "doctor" is in the news, support for abortion immediately declines somewhat.
Now, most people on these types of issues do *not* first blow one way and then the other, but stay consistent in their answers. So the fluctuation up & down of the *overall* poll results are dependent on those respondents whose answers are affected by the latest news.
And when it comes to Mormons, the issue of Polygamy is always "in the news". They are constantly getting hammered over their church's history (18?? to 1890?) of polygamy. Every time a polygamist and his harem from some hick area of Utah/Ariz/etc get in the news, it's used to slam the Mormons. The late night comedians especially love this "twofer" of Religion plus Sex rolled into one. Even when no P-cult is in the national news, the issue is still "In The News" for Mormons ... *all* the time.
It's undoubtedly the one moral issue Mormons are the most sensitive about, because the rest of us will never let them forget it. So when they're asked their opinion on a set of issues that includes Polygamy, that one loaded word will stand out from among the others on the list, and set off a kneejerk reaction of "No! No! Never! Never!" among many/most of the respondents.
If a poll of evangelical Christians rated polygamy as more of a concern than abortion, I would be concerned. The fact that Mormons do so is just one big "Duh!"
I have been telling you information, in spite of your attitude and lashing out.
For instance what I just corrected with you about Bishop Romney.
(like Milli Vanilli was)
The thread is on polygamy, I didn’t realize New Yorkers could be so easily shocked.
It could be that some Mormons are all right with it as a civil law that they don't intend to use, but because mostly non-Mormons will abort.
Actually - each has very unique skills...one member can pay several instruments like Prince - E-Young...another, is a very famous Asian model (Nana), others are actors in movies over in Korea...it depends - but they “work” for a company and are not like stars in the US...they live in very cramped apartments and get paid a salary...so, it’s really a job and career where contracts to do other things are consonantly negotiated...
pretty humbling...

You know I figure with this Mormon and polygamy thing it’s kinda like this. They never really stopped with it they just went under ground. They tell us it’s outlawed so the rest of us leave them alone but I have a feeling it still goes on, in private.
Now really if these women are dumb enough to do that who am I to stop them?
Killing their baby in abortion however, that is a horse of another color.
It’s not immoral for the 14% who have several wives.
ping and see post 56.
You dog! Way to go!
When I say ‘consenting adults’ I mean 18+.
