When asked whether they felt an issue was immoral, morally acceptable, or not a moral issue, heres a breakdown of how many Mormons declared that certain activities were morally wrong.
Drinking alcohol: 54% Having an abortion: 74% Sex between unmarried adults: 79% Practicing polygamy: 86%
Hold the phone. 86% of Mormons say that polygamy is morally wrong?*
It seems that Mormons hate polygamy even more than abortion. Remember that abortion is discussed in the church handbook as a sin that requires serious repentance and sometimes disciplinary action on the part of the church. Abortion is permissible only in rare circumstances.
Ive certainly never heard a Mormon say that abortion is an ideal practice that were not living now but will someday be living in heaven. The thought is preposterous. And thats a strange disconnect, because despite contemporary Mormons even greater revulsion at polygamy, we do sometimes (less so in the 21st century, but more commonly a couple of generations ago), hear it extolled as the order of heaven, as explained in Doctrine & Covenants 132.

They’d re-adopt it in an Ogden minute if it became acceptable to mainstream society.
“* Of the remaining people surveyed, 11% said polygamy was not a moral issue, and only 2% declared it morally acceptable. Im assuming that the other 1% had no opinion; see Campbell et al, p. 58.”
“86% of Mormons say that polygamy is morally wrong?* “
And yet their cult teaches that there is still eternal polygamy. That’s a lot of celestial sex!
This is Mormons responding to an emotionally charged question from outsiders. Of course they’ll say they oppose polygamy because there’s an obvious pressure on them over the question. In private I’d be inclined to say the numbers would shift dramatically.
Personally, any more I have no problem with the Mormons practicing poly if they want. There’s no legal justification to prevent three men or three women from marrying each other so why can’t a heterosexual (group?) have the same rights?
Cults are always about males gettin’ a lot. How distinct the true Christian faith is from all the rest.
I don’t understand why any sane male would want more than one nagging, complaining wife. In a time when fertility was low, I could understand it...but now?
When I started dating my wife she had nearly lost her daughters to a Mormon who wanted them for his harem on Tralfamadore. Luckily we got them back. About the time he tried to forbid them from attending our wedding they woke up to the fact this wasn't a normal religion. It's a a weird story that I should post in full when not typing on a phone.
I guess since the Baby Mama's Don't live together it is different.
Yet you are all missing the point!
Having an abortion:74%
Practicing polygamy: 86%
Being part of a cult means doing what you are told, the Mormons are a large group, so a memo from their Pope after his revelation from God won’t instantly change the polling, but the organization will have the rank and file lined up pretty quickly as they explain to them that they have switched back to the polygamy of it’s origins.
That’s one of the proofs that Christianity is true, I think. Human beings are not likely to make up a religion where you can’t have sex until marriage, have to remain faithful to your spouse after marriage, and cannot easily divorce.
Maybe it's a Collective Urge to Replace our 50+ Million Aborted Children since the 70's?
I don't know, Just putting it out there.
I’ll keep saying until you get it....
Having an abortion:74%
Practicing polygamy: 86%
What an upside down world we live in! Black athletes have multiple children with multiple women and it’s socially acceptable because none of these people live together or have any commitment to each other. But if any man commits to his children and his women and he supports them instead of abandoning them to the welfare state then that’s wrong?
[/facepalm]
Good thought! Is it unconscious I wonder? And, of course, it’s not Mormons who are aborting.
Mormonism is not really anti-abortion, although they do want control over Mormons having abortion, that is why Bishop and Cardinal Mitt Romney could be so passionately and publicly pro-abortion, and still be among the holiest and devout Mormons, like Harry Reid.
It is in the eyes of Uncle Sam.
Less People Depended on Him.
Just like it's Wrong to Grow your own food because it cannot be taxed.
Can't have that.
With women you are just multiplying your problems exponentially the more you marry.
WxWxWxW=W^4!
Are you badgering us? Rather than talk down to us and mock what we choose to respond on, why don't you just tell us your point?
