Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

You, me, and a WHOLE host of other people.

Once you are given spiritual eyes to see, it is staggering to remember the blindness you operated under.

It makes so much sense now, that sometimes I find it hard to believe that I didn’t see it back then.

I said nothing about only true (although I could have) what I said was "the true church that Christ founded"...and He did....it's in the Bible, look it up.

You made the claim. It's YOUR responsibility to back it up, to provide the references showing you are correct. Nobody should be sent off to do your work for you.

Don't be lazy and send someone off to do your own work for you when it can't be done anyway because it doesn't exist in there.

It's just sending someone off on a fool's errand and wastes their time.

Waste your own.

Unfortunately, as the church drifted into error, it came to power in Rome. It continued downhill from there. Fortunately, God has always reserved for Himself true believers. Praise to God.

The Catholic church came to power in Rome with Peter, her first Pope. You say it went downhill from there...that would mean that Jesus Christ went beck on His promise to be "With you until the end of time" God has indeed reserved for Himself true believers, they are known all over the world as Catholics. Praise to God.

Jesus said that where two or three are gathered together, He would be in their midst.

So, no, He never went back on His promise to be with His body until the end of time.

Catholic’s problem is that they think their church is what Jesus was referring to, and they’re wrong about that.

The true church is an organism, not an organization or an institution.

Yes, well, I believe it was amoreperfectunion that said it was all in God's timing. We all responded at the time of His choosing. He was not taken by surprise, since He knows the end from the beginning. I also said, that it was probably the angels who watch us that were surprised. They probably watched me, and thought what a worthless, useless sinner I was. But there is more celebration in Heaven, over one sinner who repents, than 99 who already repented. I suspect that God's holy angels and Satan's demons are always fighting each other, right among us in the same room we occupy, and we do not see it. Spiritual wickedness in high places. I also look at things the way they are now, and wonder why I did not see it sooner in life. I was 21, and in the USAF at the time, but maybe I just wasn't ready to hear it at a younger age. I don't know, but I am glad I see the truth now. My eternal standing with God depends on it.

WOW, just like Elsie...10 naughty popes...you had a lot of duplicates so there were 110. Now, lets see, out of 266 that's one out of 26.6 that the church picked. Jesus picked 12 Apostles and 1 out of 12 was naughty.....His church is doing fine, thank you.

An appropriate warning. What is the warning for those who fail to recognize a prophet of the Lord? Is there one? Just out of curiosity, who was the last real Prophet of the Lord, as you understand it? Have there been any or did all of that stop with Jesus' death?

When God speaks to His people through His prophets, they are to obey the word of the Lord and are accountable to Him. This was why the Lord was so strict with those who claimed to be speaking for Him and who might lead His people astray. That was one of the ways a false prophet could be exposed if he tried to turn people away from the true God to false gods. No matter what a so-called prophet said, he was to be shunned, and even killed, if he tried to lure people away from God and if what they claimed would come to pass did not come to pass. See, that was one of the signs of a true prophet.

The Lord speaking through Isaiah, told His people why he would send them prophets:

Therefore I declared them to you long ago, Before they took place I proclaimed them to you, So that you would not say, 'My idol has done them, And my graven image and my molten image have commanded them.' "You have heard; look at all this. And you, will you not declare it? I proclaim to you new things from this time, Even hidden things which you have not known. "They are created now and not long ago; And before today you have not heard them, So that you will not say, 'Behold, I knew them. (Isaiah 48:5-7)

A false prophet would be exposed as false when he declared future events and they did not happen. Demonic beings have power, but they cannot foretell the future.

I believe the last genuine prophet of the Lord was the Apostle John and his Revelation was the last of the divinely-inspired books. God's prophets were always told to write down what God spoke to them so that we have the sacred Scripture by which all truth claims concerning the faith can be measured. If someone comes along and claims to be a prophet of the Lord, they have a very high bar to reach. I do not believe there still are "Prophets of the Lord" as the Bible is the "whole counsel of God" to us and the Holy Spirit illuminates the truths to our hearts.

BTW, I wanted to ask you, when Jesus said, upon this rock I will build my church, I am 100% sure he did not mean Peter, but was He referring to that statement of faith that Peter made, or was He referring to Himself? That is what I think He meant, on Himself, but give me your opinion please.

He meant Peter and, in fact, called him by name.

You are Petros and upon this petra I will build my church.

He did not say. talking to Peter, “Upon YOU will I build my church”.

Nor did He say, talking to the other disciples, “Upon HIM will I build my church”.

Additionally, when James and John were arguing about who would be the greatest of them all, there would have been the PERFECT opportunity for Jesus to say, *Too bad, guys. Peter’s got the job*, and yet He didn’t.

Not one word from Jesus to the other disciples to that effect.

He meant Peter and, in fact, called him by name.

He used different words, as metmom points out. Again, we disagree, and we will always disagree. So be it. I am happy as a lark with my standing with the Lord. I no longer have the incredible spiritual blindness I did before my conversion. I am content with it. I attend Calvary Chapel. I am content with that too.

No, it's not doing mighty fine, because Judas was never put in charge of the church.

Qualifications for elder and deacon.

1 Corinthians 5:1-13 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father's wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.

For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”

That precludes taking communion with someone like that.

2 John 1:4-11 I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another. And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

Titus 1:5-16 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

1 Timothy 3:1-13 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 5:19-24 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

In the Six Day War Israel pre-emptively attacked and destroyed her Arab neighbors in an almost flawless battle plan. Israel attacked as Nasar of Egypt was talking about attacking them. What defense system are you talking about regarding the Six Day War of 67?

the best defense is often a strong offense, and regardless of which way it happened, God led Israel in the war effort, He did not blow up anything Himself....they did.
