Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

Posted on 12/14/2014 11:57:21 AM PST by ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

Some folks think in Excel and others think in “fuzzy logic” and, of course, some just don’t think at all! ....they regurgitate what Rome tells them.

What is your degree in? I am still waiting on that answer from you.

Be honest now, if Metmom had advanced degrees in Theology and ancient Greek and Hebrew languages, would it make any difference to you if she disputed something Roman Catholicism teaches?

You already showed your hand when you claimed:

The thing I try to keep in mind is that protestantism is a vast intellectual wasteland.

    Prots have difficulty accepting truth.

Among other equally bigoted ad hominem attacks towards non-Catholic Freepers when they disagreed with RC doctrines. So, what is your motivation for asking anyone for their scholastic credentials when you have already revealed it won't make a bit of difference?

They really cannot see ......unfortunately....the deeper they are engulfed by catholicism rather than Christianity the blinder they become to their own foolish thinking.....it’s simply the progression of indoctrination often beginning in childhood. In many cases only God’s Spirit can break through the fog of deception.....thank God they cannot go so deep that HE is not deeper still!

It's gotta be tough to be a catholic....there is sooooo much material you have to keep up with.

Being a Christian is easier....all you need is the Word.

You are correct sir. I was a catholic myself, till I was 21. I was in the USAF at the time, when some guys with the Navigators got to me, and told me the truth. I was mostly influenced by the fact that I did not feel I could ever live up to the Catholic plan of salvation. I could not do it, and that is why I now have faith in the REAL Jesus of the Bible, not the Jesus of the cults, and I think there are many false Christs out there.

Praise God bro, and maranatha.

....” I show you how to pray to saints”.....

Jesus shows us how to pray through Him to the Father......much more trustworthy and certainly HE has the answers.....not man, not traditions of men, not praying to those who have departed and are in Heaven with Him...

So according to you...maybe Mary just hollers across the room, “it’s for you, Son...”?..... or Peter, or Moses holler across the heavenly portals as gatekeepers..”Hey Jesus another prayer coming in?”

Jesus said...NO ONE can come to the Father but by Him.....all would do well to obey HIS warning....which by the way wasn’t giving us options.

See my 3885. It happened to me, thank God. I could not believe how blind I was, but now I see. Seems to me someone should write a song about that. Oh wait, John Newton already did :-)

Two friends of mine said pretty much the same thing when they became Christians....and left catholicism. They never felt they could measure up...and of course they never would.

Great testimony....doesn’t get much better than that! Amen!

Yes, a little bit of truth to season the falsehoods. Quite a clever technique.

Very good thoughts, thanks for the post.

Prophecy is being fulfilled at an accelerated rate lately imo.

Lots of pieces of the puzzle coming together.

Yes, I have it move as so in the past as well....however the difference is the speed and the obvious projection is very clear in real time so to speak....quite amazing to be living to see this.

There is plenty of proof that even the Apostles' Creed was edited and updated over time by the Catholic church. For example, the words "one, holy, catholic and apostolic church" was not originally in there. I believe it is by the providence of Almighty God that we have thousand of manuscript copies of the Bible books in the ancient languages they were written in so that God's word is protected from human "editing".

The Holy Spirit speaks in all times THROUGH the Holy Spirit inspired Scriptures

No. John 14:26 did not add "THROUGH", etc. You made it up. That is the quality of all your proof-texts: traditions of men and wishful thinking of men and a few verses without context for a cover-up.

Why don't you show me where I said John 14:26 said "the Holy Spirit speaks through Scripture"? The quality of your responses are lacking context and you don't appear to even read what has been said before you do answer back. Here is what I actually did say:

As you have abundantly shown, even WHEN the Scriptures are given to you that prove sola Scriptura and sola fide, you reject them anyway. That's why I find it awfully disingenuous for you to place your church OVER Divinely-inspired Scripture. Just what exactly do you imagine the Holy Spirit "bringing to remembrance whatsoever I have said to you" means other than the enscripturation of Jesus' teachings? We have FOUR gospel accounts that do that and we also have the continued revelation from God to the early believers in the form of WRITTEN epistles. Do you trust the memory alone of sinful men to ensure God's truth remains pure? The Old Testament books were examples of the prophets of the Lord writing down His revelation - under God's instructions to do just that - so that we have His truths preserved for all time. Heaven and earth will pass away but the word of God will never pass away.

The Holy Spirit speaks in all times THROUGH the Holy Spirit inspired Scriptures and is who opens hearts to receive it and believe so that we are saved. It is why even the first Christians NEVER accepted the seven Apocyrphal books as equal to what they KNEW was divinely inspired Scripture. Maybe it's the Catholic's Bible that needs circumcision - the extraneous foreskin of humanly devised fables, myths, legends and musings don't belong with God's sacred word.

Jesus taught in John 14:23-26,

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Are you now denying that the Holy Spirit speaks through sacred Scripture or that the New Testament writings were what Jesus meant by the Holy Spirit bringing back to their remembrance everything He taught them? Those disciples are long dead but we have the "more sure word of prophecy" (sacred Scripture) because that was the will of God. It's hard to decipher what your argument even is. Perhaps if you didn't give a "knee-jerk" response to everything non-Caths say here, you might be more coherent. If all you want to do is be an automaton who says, "NO!", to whatever someone you see as an opponent states, then you ought to devote your time to other things. You aren't making much of a contribution to this discussion.

It then explains that the Holy Scripture is inspired -- "all" of it, including the Deuterocanon

No. 2 Tim. 3:14-17 did not say "including the Deuterocanon ". You made it up. That is the quality of all your proof-texts: traditions of men and wishful thinking of men and a few verses without context for a cover-up.
