I recently had a few young men looking to join the Catholic Church. Their math teacher told them that if they join the Catholic Church, they'll go to Hell.
Jesus said that He is the door and the true vine and the bread of life.
Does that mean that He’s made of wood, or green and growing leaves, or made of flour and wheat?
Seems that the Catholics fail to grasp that doing something figurative can either be in remembrance for something in the past or foreshadowing, for something yet to happen in the future.
It doesn’t mean doing the actual act itself.
Jesus died ONCE for all and is NOW seated at the right hand of the Father, just as Scripture so abundantly and plainly teaches us.
I for one, would say yes.
Considering some of the evil perpetrated by men in this world, there's always someone who's sold their soul to him.
You expect to be taken seriously when you make fun of Jesus like that?
Nice try but no cigar...I'm not making fun of anyone...I am serious...Can you answer the question??? If Jesus had blood and open chest wounds, why no blood running out???
I made a couple of assertions that can be proven with scripture...I mostly quoted Hahn and scripture...
And that's all I can get out of you, that I made a lot of assertions???
They don't seem to grasp the idea of prophecy...Yet, they have their own prophets...Catholic prophets that predict their Catholic future...
You are talking about the risen Christ, who can walk through walls, who can travel the universe with the speed of thought, who will never die, and you think that he can’t figure out how to retain the wounds of his crucifixion without bleeding?
You made a few cheap shots about trivialities without confronting the important points Hahn makes.
2) Is there any rational explanation for this "Common Core Math" image used on the FReepathon begging post:
some where some place there is a public school teacher who was paid waaaay to much for trying to use math to teach absurd justification to young minds full of mush.
Stare at it enough, and it looks like maybe they’re trying to answer the question “Twenty Seven plus WHAT equals Fifty Four” ... and then jump from 27 to 54 on a number line. It’s needlessly complicated. Worse, it’s not subtraction ... it’s counting on your fingers.
Scott Hahn and the other former Protestants must be a real breath of fresh air for Catholics...They don’t preach like Catholics...They preach like Protestants...
A few interesting things about Scott Hahn a couple of which are; his first 3 years of preacher training were devoted to classes on philosophy which has nothing to do with the bible...Has nothing to do with God or Christianity...It’s all man’s wisdom...
Another thing is after learning some bible, he didn’t learn enough to know there are types, figures and shadows of the N.T. contained in the O.T according to his own words...
I have talked to, listened to and read numerous Protestant preachers and pastors who all knew and know about these things...
I used to listen to a couple of Presbyterian pastors on the tv years ago and they certainly had an understanding of the scriptures as well as the types, shadows thing...I could easily have set under their teaching...
You guys fawn all over Hahn yet there are likely thousands of Presbyterian teachers and preachers who are just as educated as Hahn who wouldn’t follow him to the grocery store let alone any where near a bible...
The sad thing is that apparently Hahn knows far more scripture than most all Catholics and you guys appear to look him as a demi-god or something...
One thing is clear...Out of the 71 verses in John 6, Hahn avoided about 68 of ‘em like they were a hot potato...Par for the course for those who want to lead people astray...
Hahn also claims he had no idea for year why Jesus was called the Lamb of God...That would normally seem really odd but that has never been a problem for those of us who read and believe the scriptures...
Scott Hahn is a powerful speaker with a powerful testimony...He admittedly quit studying the bible years ago (not that he ever did study the scriptures) and went exclusively with the Catholic church fathers...I have no doubt that Scott would exceptionally good at selling used cars...
So Mass according to Hahn is the continued sacrifice of Jesus AS WELL AS the marriage supper of the lamb...That’s quaint...That’s way far out there...
Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Anyone reading these scriptures can see that the bride is all together as one...The wedding is a one shot deal...It is not individual people receiving a wafer day in and day out all over the world...Hahn weaves a pretty good story for those who don’t have a clue what the Revelation to John is talking about...
It doesn’t seem to occur to Catholics that there are a gazillion Protestants and other non-Catholics who have read your church fathers just as Hahn has and reject what he teaches based on what the rest of the book of Revelation (and the entire bible) reveals...If Hahn was right, we bible believers would all believe him, but of course we don’t...
That is an interesting premise:
If a preacher is preaching the truth, then everyone will believe him.
Now, let's apply your premise:
A majority of people rejected the preaching of Jesus.
Therefore:
Jesus was not preaching the truth.
John 8:12: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I AM the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
John 10:9: "I AM the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."
John 10:11: "I AM the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
John 15:1: "I AM the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
Sitting on the page, isolated, the various statements that “I am a door/vine/way” look like the statements in John 6.
That’s only if you ignore the crowd. In John 6, he is speaking before a crowd who are outraged and scandalized by what he is saying, and who get up and leave by the thousands. There isn’t a hint of such a reaction to the other sayings. “He’s nuts! He says he’s a door! He’s crazy! He says he’s a vine!”
But Jesus doesn’t just say “I am food. I am drink.” He says we must “eat,” “gnaw,” “chew” his body. When the horrified reactions begin, he DOUBLES DOWN on the graphic, concrete language.
Is it even conceivable that Jesus could UNNECESSARILY outrage and scandalizes people by putting a perfectly reasonable, pleasant, metaphor in such a way as to drive thousands of them away?
Is it conceivable that the gospel would tell us of such a SIN on the part of Jesus?
If the non-Catholic interpretation of John 6 were true, wouldn’t the declaration that we must eat his body and drink his blood be received by the crowd with the same equanimity as his statements that he is a door/vine/way, etc.?
The mob who abandon Jesus are the main witnesses that these statements about eating Jesus’ body and drinking his blood are not in the same category as his many other metaphors.
Why does John WANT us to know that thousands of people walked away from Jesus? I.e., by telling us about it, John is making a point FOR US. He’s telling us that, if we understand what Jesus is saying, WE might be outraged, disgusted, etc. Of course, as in every other scene in his gospel, John’s purpose is that we should hear and believe.
Bottom line: The “Catholic” interpretation of John 6 is the only interpretation according to which the crowd is wrong in abandoning Jesus, and the apostles are not fools for staying.
see the danger in self-interpretation of the Bible.....Good grief!!
And He goes on to say.....
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
Scripture says a lot about meditating on the word of God.
As opposed to self-interpreting by buying into someone else’s interpretation and taking it as your own.
It’s still your own decision. Just a matter of taking someone else’s pre-packaged one instead of thinking for your self.
