In the midst of the American Civil War, Lincoln noted that the countrys industry and population was still growing. In the document officially instituting Thanksgiving as a national holiday, he explicitly credited this to nothing else but Gods grace:
"No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy."
He then asked everyone in the country to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

I posted this, this morning too:
God bless America!
Let us join together, Americans all, throughout our land. Let us join together, in factories and farms, in homes and offices, in places of governance and places of worship, and in outposts everywhere that service men and women defend us. Let us, young and old, join together, as did the First Continental Congress, in the first step -- humble, heartfelt prayer. Let us do so for the love of God and His great goodness, in search of His guidance and the grace of repentance, in seeking His blessings, His peace, and the resting of His kind and holy hands on ourselves, our Nation, our friends in the defense of freedom, and all mankind, now and always.
- Ronald Reagan - February 3, 1988
Saw the movie at a friend’s of mine’s house, who was a gracious Thanksgiving Day hostess, her, her husband and a daugther home from college, the movie “Lincoln”.
Lincoln was an atheist. He never went to church in his life. He would occasionally cite scripture because he knew the majority of American were God-fearing people, sadly he was not one of them,
Have you been reading the atheist websites or the Lost Cause websites?
Show me one quote from Lincoln where he said he was a man of faith. I can show you countless quotes from other people, to include his wife and his best friends that say he was not a man of faith, and was either an atheist or as close to atheism as a man can get. He also could have cared less about the plight of a black man, thinking the white man was his superior.
Which adds up to exactly zero. You may wear your religiosity on your sleeve but that counts for nothing (except in your own mind). That somehow Lincoln fails to measure up to your level of piety is a matter of amusement but otherwise means nothing. Show me one quote from Lincoln where he says "I am an atheist".
He also could have cared less about the plight of a black man, thinking the white man was his superior.
Utterly irrelevant even if true (which it isn't). The same claim could be said of every southron of the age.
