I don't know where or how to begin, so since Townhall is a secular website with many Christian viewers, I will simply post a couple pieces of scripture--one for each comment, although there are multiple choice Bible verses contrasting what Osteen personally believes:
OSTEEN: "I don't know who would say that you're not supposed to, you know, leave your children better than they were before."
GOD: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother'--which is the first commandment with a promise--'that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.' Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:1-4)
OSTEEN: "There's a belief that you're supposed to suffer more and be poor and to show your humility. I just, I don't see the Bible that way."
GOD: "This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials. Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:6-7)
As far as what God says about how we bless people and what we bless them with, God asks us to bless people with eternal gifts--namely, Him, and not earthly ones--regardless of our mental, physical, or monetary state:
GOD: "But He [God] said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
Parting note: Belief in God, Jesus, and His Word is worthless if you do not love and obey Him. Satan believes all these things but doesn't love Him nor follow His commands.
You can’t serve two masters.
It’s either God or money and Osteen has picked.
Some of the Christians who have been the biggest blessing to me are in terrible shape financially.
Their blessing to me had absolutely ZERO to do with money. Not one cent.
It’s who they are and what they’ve done. Not what they have.
If Osteen thinks that he can be a blessing to others because he’s rich, the only way that could happen is if he was giving his money away.
I wonder what his IRS tax returns look like.
Wow! I guess we know what makes him happy. He would be depressed if he was poor and broke? I suppose we can only say "he has his reward". My joy is found in Jesus not money.
From what I can tell riches and earthly happiness is the extent of his teaching. He uses Jesus only to get those things. God is simply a facilitator of his earthly wants. His call at the end is simply a call for people to find a way to use Jesus that same way he does.
Pastor Joel Osteen to Oprah: “I Can’t Be A Big Blessing To People If I’m Poor & Broke”
Well Jesus managed to do it but since you are about as far from Jesus as possible you statement is fair.......
My nephew and his wife have a small Biblical church about two miles from JO monstrosity “church”, he told me 50% of new attendies are from OJ place.
They are hungry for the Word, fortunately they knew it wasn’t coming from OJ.
“Remember, Joseph had to take his family to Egypt to escape a tyrants rampage against his son.”
Yes - God provides. I have thought that with no job, etc. when they fled, Joseph used those gifts to live on for awhile in Egypt. I wonder what the history of Egypt was like at that time. Did Joseph go to live with distant relatives? Other Jews? (I’m guessing one of those?)
Or did he flee and live among non-Jews, or even hiding out in the wilderness?
Well, Joseph was a carpenter so likely he was able to support himself.
I’m guessing it would have taken some time to built up a new customer base.
Probably. No doubt the gifts helped with expenses.
Whatever the case I’m sure his house wasn’t worth 10,000,000 sheqels.
yep

My guess is Jesus wouldn't fare too well with the pope...Joel certainly wouldn't have had an invite with the pope had he not been rich and famous...
The pope might have built a shower for Jesus, too.
Paul was poor and broke, I think he was a blessing to the world. Ditto most of the disciples and church fathers.....
I assume by Petrine authority you mean the Pope? Have you noticed what Francis has been spouting lately? Multiple denominations have gone astray, but there are still faithful ones and faithful churches to be found.
Stray pronouncements by an Pope do not change the Credo or Catechism.
HaHaHaHa....
Lol.
Remember Daddy Rich from that Car Wash movie?
