Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

You got THIS from SCRIPTURE posted?
Now you’ve gone and done it. This thread will never settle down.
(I can imagine I hear the pounding of footsteps now as they begin another rush to their blazing computer keyboards, bringing even more RCC minions with them this time.)
To paraphrase Paul in Romans 7:7...
... I would not have known to hate Luther if the RCC had not made such a diversionary fuss about him.
LOL!
Indeed!
You VIPERS!
Granpa LC, what’s a brood?
Yes you are and yes they were. Duh.
Sixty-eight years old and in so many ways still childish. Thanks for the reproach which helps me get back on track. Very encouraging. ~ Resettozero #749
You're welcome.
Thank you for replying to me.
Direct question to you and I hope you will give a straight-forward response (meaning no more evasion and no more obfuscation):
Are you aware that your posts are largely deflective balderdash?
Second question, either way your first answer lands:
Are you so committed to defending the RCC, that you will knowingly state falsehoods to defend the RCC?
I didn't imply. You inferred.
Words such as "false" "wrong" "error" do not attribute motive.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
Roger Wilco.
But what’s the option if a poster is misleading the readers of a thread, either purposefully or totally, utterly, and completely by accident?
Misrepresentations of what is provably factual (what can be shown to be false) must not be alowed to stand without someone (perhaps the Moderator?) declaring they are misrepresentations.
What can be more personal that this entire FR thread?
You know resettozero, I was in the process of answering your questions. Had a reply typed up and everything. Then the Holy Spirit came to me and said, "wait a moment."
Now, in the spirit of charity I will answer your questions. First of all if a straight-forward question is asked of me that is not replete with presuppositions, modifiers, qualifiers and an embedded anti-Catholic bias then that person will receive a straight-forward answer.
You may consider what I say to be largely deflective balderdash but I do seem to recall that you and I had the beginnings of a half-way decent dialogue earlier in the thread. Who remembers about what at this point.
Yes, I will defend the Catholic Church and no I will not knowingly lie to do so.
Gentlemen, we need not quarrel over whether a general principle was recited to a particular FReeper. The fact is, none of us is perfect, and I have throttled back my visceral reactions to various statements and rewritten response posts several times until I was satisfied my inner child was not interfering with the content. Ideally, I would like to not have that struggle, but being a fallible human has its disadvantages. Thank God for His grace.
JPX, I having been following this conversation and intend to get back to you on a number of issues, but my time has been constrained. I am especially interested in addressing some of the epidemiological questions you raise, hopefully in the near future.
Meanwhile, for,the sake of civility, perhaps everyone might try assuming, at least for the sake of argument, that everyone here really believes what they are saying, no matter how unreasonable it may seem. I have found it really helps keep the focus on the issues. Just a thought ...
Peace,
SR
The words "prevarication" "dishonesty" "slander" "deceit" "calumny" and "subterfuge" are synonymous with "lie" because they entail intent.
Words such as "false" "error" "wrong" "inaccurate" "misstatement" do not attribute motive and are not "making it personal."
Other words push the envelope of motive but are not synonymous with "lie" for purposes of modding the RF. However, they can be "making it personal" if applied to another Freeper, personally, in such a way the discussion becomes "about" the individual Freeper instead of the issues. Those words include "misrepresentation" "detraction" "disinformation" "distortion" "hyperbole" and "doublespeak."
