Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Some might whine: BADGERING!!!
Honey; don’t care.
Where did you ever get that? No true follower of Christ would believe that. Christ atoned for all of our sins.
Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Those were probably for cutting their meat at the dinner table?
I'm not making a pacifist argument here. I am not a pacifist and I do not defend that position. I'm just saying historically, Christians in the pre-Constantine centuries didn't defend their families and congregations with force of arms. If you think that's disturbing, you're surely not the only one.
The passage you cite certainly is not about armed defense. They said "Here are two swords" and He said "Enough!"
Oh really? What was Peter doing carrying a sword?
John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Why does the Vatican have guards?
Uh, I’m not Catholic but the high priest in this case was Jewish.
Luke 22:36-38And if it was for defense, why did Jesus within minutes disarm Peter, when he tried using the sword for defense? He said to them, But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you dont have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: And he was numbered with the transgressors; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.
The disciples said, See, Lord, here are two swords.
Thats enough! he replied.
Like I said, I'm not a pacifist and I'm not defending pacifism. I'm just telling you what's there. The NT record and the historic record do not show one instance of a Christian community arming itself for defense despite 300 years of violent persecution directed against their homes, their families and their congregations.
You back up your statements with Biblical verses. Thank you so much. I never knew Catholics had such little use for God’s Word. They keep repeating they gave people the Bible, but seem to have little use for it. God bless. Some of the things they post are unbelievable.
Jesus explained that. He said: "Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it?" He knew it was time.
You made a great point they were not able to refute because you got an inane image.
I find it ironic that a Catholic would tell you to stop throwing your pearls before swine.
Without exception, they did what Christ said: "Put down the sword" and "Take up the cross".
The last Johnstone book, “Stand your Ground” is about terrorists taking over a Texas town. It is the first in another series. Let me know if you find them and how you like them. They are stand alone books but I like to read them in order.
ping to post 966 for a discussion of Greek.
They didn’t get involved or even concern themselves with politics or defending their country either. Nor did any of them any longer establish businesses or be gainfully imployed.
Bu it's one that didn't persist for 300 years. It was almost univerally rejected by Christians, except for monastics.
The rejection of the sword for defense, however, did persist in the Christian community for 300 years, until the Age of Constantine. And after 300 years, too, by monastics.
Man; what I could do with a machine like that around my place!!
Of course!
My opinions and proud spouting carry NO weight and are easily swatted down.
