Did Obama use a "No True Scotsman" fallacy when talking recently about Islam and Muslims?

So bombing an abortion clinic and killing an abortionist isn’t murder?

Why do we need to justify to non-believers events that they don’t even believe happened?

In fact, we should probably instead be warning them that what God did to the Amalekites is going to look merciful compared to what may happen when he returns.

The point isn't a comparison of numbers or wondering what percentage of abortion clinic bombings have been committed by Christians, etcetera, etecetera. The point is, is that the "No True Scotsman" - if used by Christians against Muslims - works against Christians, too. And NTS can be used by atheists against BOTH Christians AND Muslims. If Jesus did not murder, then can a follower of Jesus murder or urge others to murder?

I noticed it at the get go, but haven’t talked about it until now.

So “true” Christians can murder other people and retain their Christianity while doing so?

Were they “true” Jews/Hebrews when they did this?

Explicitly out of context, many scholars have interpreted John 13:35 in a way that may apply to this conversation:

(NAS) "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Thus, aside from what is often the too-casual quick read some insist Christ was specific, He was reliably reported to have said "all men" (i.e., the world, including Christians in the world, or 'the land of the living') are given the right to assess the authenticity of of Christian discipleship based upon the love manifest among them; a remarkable responsibility, when you think about it. If one takes this as a given, regardless of whether the love, or lack thereof, can be attributed to known or known-but-to-God individuals or groups of Christians, with regard to "one another" may be a stumbling block or compelling evangelism.

More to the point, the question is whether this provides "all men" with a way to adjudicate authentic Christianity. If so, it's unlikely to be accepted as such in any of the world's marketplaces, but it does raise the point among those who study our scriptures, honestly or dishonestly.

I don’t know where that came from - care to elaborate?
Christians do indeed fail the Standard, and remain Christians, but anyone who is in willful rebellion to Christ’s Law is not one of His.

Not murder, kill in self-defense or righteous war. There is a difference.

No, the point is that within any large group of humans, you are always going to find some small number of violent psychos. That small number is not a reasonable basis on which to judge or characterize the whole group.

But at some point, when the numbers do become significant and the amount of violence goes beyond the normally expected number of deviant psychos in a given group, you can draw conclusions about the group as a whole.

If the amount of violence committed by self-proclaimed Muslims was anywhere near the really small number of violent incidents committed by Christians, your concern would be justified.

But given that the violence against "infidels" committed by followers of Islam is so predictably widespread -- particularly in areas where their numbers approach a majority of the population -- the refusal to acknowledge and recognize it as a core characteristic of Islam is willful blindness, and (with all due respect) intellectual cowardice in terms of unwillingness to name and understand the enemy of civilization.

It is this blindness that has cost us the impending collapse of the greatest, most productive and most humane country in the world.

Don’t get framed into Obama’s idiocy, or the author’s trap.

Muslims do what they do because their religion dictates it. Christians sometimes do things Christ would not have them do. There are no comparisons between Christianity and Islam, either in spiritual context, or when it comes to creating and influencing peaceful, survivable civilizations.

Why does a Muslim commit an act of terrorism? It isn’t complicated. They do it because jihad frees them from penalty of sin. What they do to the infidels is not only forgiven, but it causes their shortcomings as good Muslims to washed away. Bomb an airplane full of infidels, and be assured a place in Allah’s paradise.

Christians can and do get carried away with passion for human life and souls. The genocide we are carrying out against our children is enough to distress anyone, so the idea that a Christian, or someone identifying themselves as Christian, might blow up an abortion clinic, isn’t hard to understand. Even though the alleged Christian is doing a wrong thing, especially if he kills people, he is doing it out of compassion for innocent life on some level. There might be a notion that Christ will forgive, but not one expecting Christ to approve and reward.

Leviticus 18 (the entire chapter)tells why they were to kill every living thing there.
It also gives the Hebrews a warning.

22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:

27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)

28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.

“No religion condones the killing of innocents.”

But in the eyes of Islam, non-Muslims are all infidels and therefore guilty and deserve death.

Exactly! With the way liberals like to parse words it makes you wonder whether Obama's statement wasn't a coded message.

On which day did US Military Commander in Chief B. Hussein Obama effectively stop defending the United States of America?

A. The day after Osama Bin Laden was killed.

B. The day after B. Hussein retreated from Iraq.

C. The day after B. Hussein retreated from his Syrian “Redline” Strategy.

D. The day after B. Hussein admitted that he had no strategy toward the Islamic State.

E. Other (no profanity please).

If you are talking about the old testament, and implying that God commanded they kill innocents, you are missing some things.

He told Abraham generations earlier that part of the reason for the time of slavery in Egypt was to wait for the iniquity(not innocent) of the Amorites to be full. Later there are a considerable number of verses that talk about how that civilization had no respect for life and had long ago moved from less than innocent to hideously abominable and then declined from there.

Further there is reference to giants and nephilim. If there were children of crossbred angels and humans, an abomination that may have existed for hundreds of years, then the entire population was tainted with not even being human.

The Bible vs The Koran

One is a book of love and tolerance, Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner)

The other is a book of Hate & Intolerance, Convert, Pay or Die.

For years, islam has had the luxury of keeping its books in their original language (Arabic) and concealing from the world its actual contents. Add to that mountains of hadiths and commentaries, also in Arabic which condone child abuse, wife-beating, murder, incest, slavery and other evil things. Now, with the availability of translating software, the Internet, and Instant communications, westerners are beginning to see what is REALLY in the Koran. There are those, however, who will cling to the “Third great Monotheistic Religion of Peace that worships the God of Abraham” nonsense.

Meanwhile, since St. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin, The Hebrew and Christian Scriptures have been translated into over 500 languages (and counting!). It has been subjected to Historical, Literary, Textual, Redactive, and other forms of “higher” criticism, and still says what it did 2000 years ago.

We also are able to reconcile the more violent aspects of the OT with the historical period in which they occurred. I don’t think any Christian or Jew advocates wiping out entire populations anymore.

But imams preach this very thing every Friday afternoon.

And THAT’S the difference.

>>But in the eyes of Islam, non-Muslims are all infidels and therefore guilty and deserve death.<<

AKA those infidels are not innocent. A truth lost on those who don't think for themselves. Obama and other Muslims would never get by with comments like that if people weren't taught to rely on someone else for what they should believe.
