Pope Francis, "If Mary is not your Mother, you are an orphan!"
Charisma News ^ | 9/5/2014 | Jennifer LeClaire

Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.

But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:

"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.

As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...

Look at this through the prism of art history...

I'd rather use the BIBLE's 'prism'.

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”

Thanks for making my point lady. Protestants: all style, no substance = epic fail. Too bad they're content with their superficiality they might have been of some value in this fight against Islam. They do make good propagandists. But alas, the rejection of Rome is paramount, to their dying day. Even if that death comes at the tip of a scimitar.

Care to discuss the picture and the CCC instead of deflecting to an attack on Protestantism?

>>Yet not one of them contains the word, "alone."<<

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

1 Corinthians 4:6 Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written." Then you will not take pride in one man over against another.

Would you please show us the infallible source where the "traditions" Paul was talking about are recorded so we don't go "beyond what is written?

Who did the Holy Spirit gift scripture to? Christ’s Church founded through Peter

No.

The Jews, first and foremost.

Then, (not necessarily in order) Paul.

John.

Matthew.

Mark.

Luke.

Peter wrote only two epistles.

It's a great deal of arrogance for the Catholic church to claim that IT gave the world Scripture when it is the doing of the Holy Spirit.

Once again proving that for a protestant, the order of the day is style over substance.

Oh...

I see...

....” For whom is “it” an issue?”....

I seem to recall something about avoiding even the APPEARANCE of evil.

Must not apply to everyone.

It doesn’t matter what the Catechism may teach, it is what the average rank and file Catholic may believe and practice. Amulets, rosaries, appeals to Mary to interevene, appeals to the power of her purity, the “fullness of her Grace”; The sacred heart images with Mary clutching a thorn briar bound glowing heart?

We get the “wink wink nod nod” of what you say the Catechism says vs. what the people actually do!

If one is unwilling or unable to distinguish between worship, adoration and honor; words with distinct and different meanings then how can they be trusted to give a faithful interpretation of any text whether it be Sacred Scripture or the phone book.

If one is willing to blur the distinction between worship, adoration, honor and prayer; then how can they be trusted to give a faithful interpretation of Sacred Scripture without the bias of 'tradition'?

Don't we see this mentality in the secular world, particularly with liberals and their phony issues, "don't mock me. This is SERIOUS!"

We see this mentality in the SPIRITUAL world far too often, particularly with CATHOLICS and their phony traditions, "Don't mock me. This is SERIOUS!"

As for your scriptural warning, putting aside your errant interpretation, let us assume for the moment (from your point of view) That the Eucharist is actually Jesus, made present. What would be your response and would it be idolatry? Would it be false?

... let us assume for the moment (from your point of view) That JPX2001 is actually HAL the computer, made present. What would be your response and would it be a gross violation of FR etiquette? Would it be FUN???

Are you claiming to be an authority on how God sees things?

Only a majority voting bloc of men in Rome have that distinction.

I get your point and the apocryphal scriptures would still leave a lot to be desired in the “edification” department. Yet the fact that the Muslims hold a place for her may simply be part of a fulfillment of prophecy that all nations would know Mary as blessed even if their stories of Mary are twisted. The Muslims even love the baby Jesus after a fact... practically a street rat that made good, faked his own death and retired somewhere and had kids!

The argument is more fundamental than that. If one is unwilling or unable to distinguish between worship, adoration and honor; words with distinct and different meanings then how can they be trusted to give a faithful interpretation of any text whether it be Sacred Scripture or the phone book.

The second commandment forbids the making of objects and the bowing down before them.

Catholics can play all the semantic games they want about what is worship, adoration, but that which we calla rose by any other name....

In the end, bowing is bowing and breaking the second commandment. It can be objectively seen and ascertained as such, whether the person involved deludes themselves into thinking it's not worship after all.

Hey!

It's only...

Why? To what end? Everything about it has been discussed. I know what you're going to say, you know what I'm going to say. The more important question is why you clutch onto it and have it so readily handy. Does it hold some special meaning for you? Reveal some truth? One couldn't help but think you love that picture of the Pope so much you might be thinking about joining our outfit.

There is no doubt in my mind that you believe that this is what the Catholic Church teaches.

Be doubtless all you want; but it was a CATHOLIC who posted "Mary softens the hearts of angry people. And then she guides them to her Son. ♥ "

So the questions comes to you: Is this poster correct or not?

It's YOUR chosen church. Does IT claim that is enough?

I'm a condemned soul according to the other poster. Only he/she can answer that question now.
