Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.
But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:
"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.
As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...
Why do they continue to lie about it? When I was growing up back in the good ole days, we were taught that lying was wrong.
My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen
Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.
Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.
Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.
Amen.
She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.
(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)
“How stupid do Catholics think people are?”
ROTFLMAO!
You do make jokes easy.
Brainwashed?
In the Religion forum, on a thread titled Pope Francis, “If Mary is not your Mother, you are an orphan!”, Heart-Rest wrote:
“On the other hand, the statues, relics, and hierarchy Catholics “venerate” ARE part of their worship practices”
Utterly false. Catholics worship only God. Perhaps you did not know before that that statement you made is utterly false, but you know it now, so if you continue to willfully assert that falsehood, you know where all falsehoods come from, and who the “father of all lies” is...
(Bringing this to the attention of other Catholic posters here, so they can perhaps express it more clearly to you than I have, if they care to, and make it plainer to you, so you will know without a doubt that “veneration DOES NOT EQUAL worship” for Catholics, and please don’t ever forget that truthful fact.)
They have been told this again and again. That they are allowed to get away with telling these lies again and again is amazing.
narses, you said it right...thanks for being clear
It's interesting, isn't it, that Catholics don't seem to realize that when they claim the church is right about something that contradicts clear Scriptural teaching, they are, whether they realize it or not, sitting in judgment of the Bible and declaring it wrong and untrustworthy.
Well, that certainly is a matter of opinion because that which we call a rose by any other name.....
Not to mention, God's command in the Ten Commandments it to not make graven images and bow down to them or serve them.
Now, you can argue until the cows whether or not what's going on inside your head or heart is *worship* or whatever you want to relabel it, but bowing is bowing. It's an objective fact that can be seen and recognized for what it is.
And on what planet to do live where children talk like that to their mothers?
I never talked to my mom like that. Talked back to her (and paid dearly for it to boot) but NEVER talked to her like that.
No mother whose son has won distinction for himself, either in a profession or in the field of battle, believes that the respect paid her for being his mother detracts from the honor or dignity that is paid her son. Why, then, do some minds think that any reverence paid to the Mother of Jesus detracts from His Power and Divinity? We know the false rejoinder of those who say that Catholics "adore" Mary or make her a "goddess," but that is a lie. Since no reader of these pages would be guilty of such nonsense, it shall be ignored. -Fulton J. Sheen, "The World's First Love: Mary, Mother of God"
I guess this will be another question you refuse to answer: How many years of Catholic education did you have?
Whether the powers that be admit it or not there is a definite anti-Catholic bias on FR.
This getting really sad. Let's go to Catholic Online at http://catholic.org/prayers/prayer.php?s=31 and see what we find there.
Act of Oblation to the Blessed Virgin Mary
My Queen! my Mother! I give thee all myself, and, to show my devotion to thee, I consecrate to thee my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my entire self. Wherefore, O loving Mother, as I am thine own, keep me, defend me, as thy property and possession. Amen.
Well, well, well. There we have it again. Dedicating oneself to Mary claiming they are her property. Not God's property nor dedicated to Him, but her property.
Here's another
Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thine Immaculate Heart. We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are. To thee we give our bodies, our hearts and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families, our country. We desire that all that is in us and around us may belong to thee, and may share in the benefits of thy motherly benediction. ` And that this act of consecration may be truly efficacious and lasting, we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our Baptism and our first Holy Communion. We pledge ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith, and to live as befits Catholics who are duly submissive to all the directions of the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him. We pledge ourselves to keep the commandments of God and His Church, in particular to keep holy the Lord's Day. We likewise pledge ourselves to make the consoling practices of the Christian religion, and above all, Holy Communion, an integral part of our lives, in so far as we shall be able so to do. Finally, we promise thee, O glorious Mother of God and loving Mother of men, to devote ourselves whole-heartedly to the service of thy blessed cult, in order to hasten and assure, through the sovereignty of thine Immaculate Heart, the coming of the kingdom of the Sacred Heart of thine adorable Son, in our own hearts and in those of all men, in our country and in all the world, as in heaven, so on earth. Amen.
Giving everything to Mary? Not to God. Not to Jesus. Giving everything to Mary! Devoting themselves wholeheartedly to her cult!
"Loving expressions" indeed. Bodies, hearts, souls, homes, families, and country all given to Mary. That's love all right.
It's obvious that Catholics know it's wrong or they wouldn't keep denying that they pray to Mary and their so called saints. Yet by the evidence, prayers and and practices we can see that they do. They give attributes and position to Mary that totally contradicts scripture. They can deny all they want but the evidence is clear.
Does your church consider him a leader? Jesus didn't pick him as a leader. Jesus chose him as one to teach and groom for leadership but Judas failed and turned against Jesus. Jesus sent out the twelve as leaders. Judas was not one of those sent by Jesus. So the answer to your question is no. Jesus did not choose Judas as one of the leaders He sent out.
