Wrong. Read the LA SC's decision at post #25. The priest's actions call into question whether the Seal can even be used to protect him in this matter. He publicly took actions which suggest that either he himself didn't respect the Seal (hard to believe) or that the church is claiming the Seal protects things that aren't part of confession. Based on those facts, it's up to a jury to decide.
I urge you to read the LA SC summary. What the priest did is not very far removed from my hypothetical. It's not a straw argument in the least.
