Who do you think I am, Joel Osteen? ;-)

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

But that's from Benjamin Franklin, not from the Bible.

That was well said.

I wonder, though, if you might want to clarify what you meant by “an intercessor before God”. (Perhaps you wish you’d expressed it differently?)

You’d start underlining key paragraphs just like I did. Went on to purchase so many of his other books as well such as Jesus of Nazareth and the Infancy Narratives.

Whenever an epistle begins with “There was a time earlier on in my Christian life where I was quite the zealous little theology cop,” you have to know someone, of a differing Christian outlook, is going to get roasted.

Thanks for the beep!

Ephesians 3:20 -

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”

God’s spirit works in us, God will do exceedingly abundantly above what we ask or think. Not by our own works but by allowing God to work for us through his love and grace. We have a big, wonderful God who strongly desires to bless and take care of his children!

I read the news about the decapitation and crucifixion of Christians in the middle east. I meditate on how I would meet that sort of end. My prayer is that because I’m a Christian I would meet it with joy. So it’s not the new car or the parking spot although I like that too, it’s seeing the face of Jesus. So I pray for the young men who do the decapitation and rape because they need prayer a lot. I believe that each of us has a guardian angel. I look for the guardian and ask whether more could not be done.

All scripture [not Hank Hanegraaff and the doctrines and opinions of man] is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16).

Man is not the authority in these matters - God is, through His Word. You have entangled yourself with those who Jesus himself spoke about:

teaching for doctrines the commandments of men... laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men...rejecting the commandments of God that you may keep your own tradition (Mark 7:7-9).

Yes, it is. They seem to teach feel good junk instead of the Bible. It is sad.

There are groups of Christians (pretty close to Pharisee-like who still think of themselves and others as under the law) who mindlessly react to the word “happiness” like Pavlov’s dog.

God wants us to be happy. I said nothing about happiness apart from God.

Amen. Within 3 years, we lost one of my daughters, my brother, husband, sister’s husband and my mom. I can truthfully say, God is the answer. I have joy in my heart. God bless.

And the law Osteen is spewing?

Be happy.
There us no room for sorrow or mourning. That is Osteens law. Don’t have any sorrow.

He has cut huge swathes out of the Bible to make that law.

All scripture [not Joel Osteen and the doctrines and opinions of man] is given by inspiration of God, ....

Are you trying to come across as a modern day Pharisee with your gotcha games? If so, you’re doing a good job of it. You ever read Hank Hanegraaff? Honestly? Since Hank has written one of the best known books on Joel’s ministry, I am sure you have since you’re an objective expert.

Your attacks on me are as if you think you’re God. You’re condemning me. You don’t know a damn thing about me — the church I attend and support, the missions I support, or what’s in my heart.

Now buzz off and go pray for your parking spots, new cars, boats, jets, $10.5 million home like Joel’s, etc. and spare me.

Sure, some of what the Osteens say is true, but much is wrong and Jesus is hardly mentioned.

As previously mentioned, Joel does an alter call TWICE at each televised service, inviting those people to come to Jesus Christ for salvation. That’s not “hardly mentioning” Jesus.

Their message is sadly lacking in a call for repentance and confession of sin, mention of sin except what it does to hurt you, and mention of Jesus.

Been over this also. What is N.T. repentance from? Where did Jesus demand confession of sin?

If you're going to claim that he is God's anointed, then you'd better be absolutely POSITIVE that he IS anointed by God, and that he is God's because if he's not, you're going to be on dangerous ground attributing to God something that is not.

Are you sure he’s NOT called and anointed of the Lord with a ministry of encouragement to restore joy to God’s people many of whom so badly need it as well as a friend of sinners? If not YOU should be warned not to attack God’s anointed.

As I’ve also already said, if you have a legitimate beef with a minister of God that is Biblically based and supportable, that's one thing, as long as your motive is to help that minster or others from harm. But here, Joel has been viciously attacked with NO reasonable scriptural support or evidence and the motives doesn't appear to be that of healing but that of spite and contempt. That comes under the heading of allegiance with the accuser of the brethren himself.

The prosperity gospel is a false gospel.

Nicely asserted and praised by others here although vague ("prosperity gospel" means different things to different people).

But if by your assertion you mean that God is not interested in prospering His people financially as well as physically and spiritually, then you are at odds with scripture (Romans 8:32 and 3 John 1:2).

“Read” is not an argument.

Presenting a Q&A session without distilling it into a cogent argument as proof of your assertion does not validate your argument. Your argument remains conclusory until you have shown how what is in the Q&A session proves your assertion. That simply hasn’t been done.

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things (Romans 8:32).

I guess that doesn't include you. But it includes me.

Sorry about my last post to you. I really want no part of a mean-spirited discussion.

And It wasn’t your last post that made me mad. It was the one before that bothered me. I felt like it was questioning my faith.

Neither of us are going to change the other’s position. I have some great friends that follow Joel Osteen and I know that I would never want my opinions to come between the relationships I have with any of them.

Again, I am sorry for engaging in this discussion in a rude manner.

Thanks for the nice reply. And I apologize if I’ve come off mean-spirited. I don’t want to do that either.

However, every once in a while I feel like confronting those who make such vicious attacks on a fellow Chistian minister for no scriptural reason
