The Hermeneutic of...Oh I Give Up.
Creative Minority Report ^ | 07/11/14 | Patrick Archbold

Some Papal Quotes that somehow and in some way beyond my meager intellect are in continuity with each other, or something.

First Quote

Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441. ex cathedra (infallibly defined):
“The most Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that none of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can profit by the sacraments of the Church unto salvation, and they alone can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he has persevered within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” http://www.ewtn.com/library/COUNCILS/FLORENCE.HTM#4

Second Quote

“I’m not interested in converting Evangelicals to Catholicism. I want people to find Jesus in their own community. There are so many doctrines we will never agree on. Let’s not spend our time on those. Rather, let’s be about showing the love of Jesus.” --Pope Francis 2014

Yeah. Umm. So. Discuss. Or something.

Bonus Quotes for discussion purposes.

Pope PIUS IX, the Holy Office-- THE SYLLABUS OF ERRORS CONDEMNED :
15. Every man is free to embrace and profess that religion which, guided by the light of reason, he shall consider true. --condemned Allocution "Maxima quidem," June 9, 1862; Damnatio "Multiplices inter," June 10, 1851.
16. Man may, in the observance of any religion whatever, find the way of eternal salvation, and arrive at eternal salvation. --condemned Encyclical "Qui pluribus," Nov. 9, 1846.
17. Good hope at least is to be entertained of the eternal salvation of all those who are not at all in the true Church of Christ. -- condemned
Encyclical "Quanto conficiamur," Aug. 10, 1863, etc.

18. Protestantism is nothing more than another form of the same true Christian religion, in which form it is given to please God equally as in the Catholic Church. --condemned Encyclical "Noscitis," Dec. 8, 1849.

Who has said there aren't many Catholics who could be in Hell?

There aren't any Christians who will be in Hell...But your religion says all Catholics are Christians...

Why you lumped mooselimbs with Catholics is beyond me.

They worship the same God as you do...They venerate Mary as the Catholics do...They are far closer to the Catholic religion than Protestants are, according to your catechism...And one of your popes likes the photo ops with him cozying up to a Koran

It's your religion's position that God never told anyone to write a book, yet your pope gets intimate with a Koran and kisses it...How much more do you need???

Acts 15:8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness by granting them the holy Spirit just as he did us. 9 He made no distinction between us and them, for by faith he purified their hearts.

Acts 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

It’s God who has already forgiven our sins.

I will predict that some of those who God is truly calling will and will “come out of her”.

Certainly if you are a baptized believer, you --- I don't say just Catholics, but YOU, baptized believer-guy --- are a member of the Church.

I personally know a guy who was baptized a Catholic to marry a Catholic woman...He may be a member of the Catholic Church but he is not and never was a member of the body of Christ...

Water baptized people do not automatically become Christians...

It’s God who has already forgiven our sins.

That notion has always amused me. Does that not mean we are free to continue to sin? That's what Luther preached.

Who has forgiven your sins, if you have any?

Heb_4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1Jn_1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Who forgives your sins, another sinner just like you???

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ “

In that case, do you think Jeffrey Dahmer and Jim Jones are saints in Heaven?

Did they ask God for forgiveness and proclaim Jesus as their savior? The sins forgiven are the ones we take directly to Him.

A Catholic priest forgives me my sins, as long I’m truly contrite and do the required penance he assigns me. That Catholic priest has the power and authority to do it because it was passed on to him from Jesus Christ through His apostles and their successors. It’s in the Bible.

Once again, who forgives your sins? You, yourself?

The sins forgiven are the ones we take directly to Him.

And you only can do that in the Sacrament of Confession.

See narses’ post 88. Just one of many examples of apostolic succession.

Catholics really need to step out of the Old Testament into the New Testament as regards this “priest” thing. Priests in the Old Testament were intermediaries between God and man. That veil was torn at Jesus death and we now have direct access to the Father in Jesus name who is our only mediator.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Catholics disrespect Christ Jesus by disregarding Christ’s death and the rending of the veil in their once again positioning of “priests” between God and man. All believers are now considered “a kingdom of priests”.

1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

We, as priests ourselves can boldly go before the throne of God without the aid of some Old Testament type priest.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

When we go before the throne of the Father in Jesus name it is He who forgives our sins.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.:

That doesn’t work so well for Catholics.

You see, no distinction.

Just FYI. Matthew is New Testament.

Catholics have never disrespected Christ by disregarding His Death. Anybody who says so it just nuts.

>> Does that not mean we are free to continue to sin?<<

That is so pathetic. Do Catholics totally not understand what the indwelling of the Holy Spirit entails? How could anyone with the Holy Spirit dwelling within them want to “continue to sin”? The fact that Catholics even ask that question tells me they are NOT indwelt by the Holy Spirit as true believers were promised would happen.

Of course they do. They just don’t realize it. Christ died that we might have direct access to the Father in His name and no longer need the intermediary services of a “priest”. The veil was rent meaning there is no longer a separation between us and he Father. Catholics disregard that sacrifice of Christ and benefit to us as believers.

When we go before the throne of the Father in Jesus name it is He who forgives our sins.

No. That is when He will judge us, not forgive us us our sins. And the more sins you have been forgiven in the temporal world, the lest your time in Purgatory.
