House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's primary loss means Congress will soon say goodbye to its only Jewish Republican.
And not only that; it also means there will likely be no Republicans in Congress who profess to be anything other than a Christian.
According to data collected by the Pew Forum at the start of the 113th Congress last year, the GOP conference was 69 percent Protestant, 25 percent Catholic, 4 percent Mormon and 1 percent Orthodox Christian.
Cantor (Va.) was the only member of any other faith on the Republican side in either the House or the Senate -- out of 278 members. There are no non-religious Republicans in Congress either.

Memo to WaPo: Cantor lost his primary race because of his foolishness on policy and because of his lack of vigor in taking on Obama, not because of his Jewishness. Heck, he was elected seven times in that district and all seven of those times, any voter who cared knew that he is Jewish. If you folks in the leftist MSM want to focus in on anti-Semitism and intolerance in American politics today, start in the Obama White House and a Democratic Party that had to be browbeaten into accepting that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel during its last national convention.
Can you please explain what a Ronulan is? Sorry, I've never seen that term.
I hope you're being sarcastic, because Cantor's defeat had nothing to do with bigotry, despite whatever it is the WaPo article may be insinuating.
Ditto
Their divineness knows no bound nor any SHAME!
Your kind of bigotry has no place at FreeRepublic.
Go back to Stormfront.
If the mass media were at all concerned about anti- semitism, they’d be exposing all the islamonazis and their comrades and fellow traveller rabble on America’s college campuses (aka: usa’s Muslim brotherhood, al quaida, and nazi party recruitment and training centers). But the media doesn’t give a damn about America bring destroyed. Indeed, they promote it ( and the politicians who push it down).
“So?”
Exactly...
What’s the religious makeup on the Dem side?
Satanists, atheists, goat worshipers?
Of course, their mission number 1 is trying to make Republicans look bad.
You’re preaching to the choir.
Because conservatives are anti-Semites, obviously. That’s why they kicked Cantor out. It definitely wasn’t over amnesty. It was b/c he’s Jewish.
But...but...the left were lumping us in with the so-called “WASP” for benefiting from “White privilege”, not to mention their support of the BDS movement. Now they want to exploit us for some contrived anti-Semitism? Libs are soooo transparent
You’re wrong anyway. We have several Mormons, like Mike Lee.
HERE! HERE! Well said.
Cantor was ousted due to his record not his Jewishness...
Yeah...right.
I sure didn’t think there could be any confusion about post 54.
WaPo isn’t fit to line my Cat Box!
*I* didn’t say “The GOP just lost it’s only non-Christian member”, the headline did. All I said was that I disagree with Levin, that I think it IS important to elect conservative GOP women and minorities.
I didn’t want to address the Mormon thing, I saw the comments on this thread. Like it or not, THEY consider themselves to be Christians, and as long as they do and as long as they have “Jesus Christ” in the name of their church, the media and most impartial non-religious observers will as well. Personally I have little interest in their classification, ultimately it’s a matter of opinion. But I didn’t want any rabid Mormon haters (some of whom I hear are ex-Mormons who have may good reason to dislike the Church, whatever, I’m not judging them for how they feel) to jump down my throat, and I ask any of them reading this to please refrain from doing so, I don’t care whether you consider them Christian or not, it’s immaterial to what I am talking about.
Well, what do you propose? We can only elect people who run. Now, if T.W. Shannon wins in Oklahoma, we’d have 2 black senators. Dems would have 1. We’d also have the only native american senator (liz warren doesn’t count)
Mia Love is pretty much locked in.
