Something I was reminded of when I heard about World Vision deciding to hire those in "gay marriages" is how Catholic Charities has long promoted homosexuality. I know this because when I was living as a lesbian 15 to 20 years ago, I went to Catholic Charities several times for counsleing, and I found that the counseling was purely secular. When I went with a "partner," our lifestyle was embraced by the counselor. When I went to a couple other counselors myself later on, I was beginning to have doubts about this life, but one counselor even tried to encourage me to accept homosexuality. She said she had many homosexual friends, and these gay friends affectionately called their straight friends "breeders," but beyond that difference all relationships are the same.
It's troubled me for a long time that the Catholic Church raises money for Catholic Charities, and it goes for psychological counseling, which only makes one conform to the ways of the world.
“As a man thinketh, so he is.”

Got a source?
I was shocked and saddened to see an Orthodox Christian charity corrupted by making an honorary spokesman out of a major abortion advocate. Unbelievable.
Did they get enough angry mail that they learned their lesson, or was that just the start of the corruption?
Meanwhile, corporate america is now a major part of pushing leftist causes.
Looking at their webpage, I’d have to guess that Fatima is right.
Then explain why every site I went to says it is a Cathlic organization? Even the CatholicCharities.com site says so. Did they lie?
I’m sorry I need some help here:
From their website:
4. Catholic Charities agencies are authorized to exercise their ministry by the diocesan bishop. Whether founded by a diocese, parish, religious congregation, or lay activists, Catholic charitable works and institutions have their formal Catholic identity in relationship to the Church and the diocesan bishop.
The bishop is charged in Church teaching and canon law with responsibility for the apostolate within diocesan confines. However organized in terms of canon and civil law, Catholic Charities have responsibilities to operate consistently with the teachings and values of the Church. While there is great organizational variety, the local diocesan bishop ordinarily is positioned within the civil law structureeven of a separately incorporated Charitiesto allow him to exercise his canonical responsibilities for the apostolate.
That doesn’t jive with a renunciation of their Catholic identity. I can’t speak to the homo/abortion thing.

Do you think that maybe her intent was just to share something unexpected she experienced that mystified her? I could relay something that happened in my old church with a Baptist preacher, doesn’t mean I’m putting them all down.
So, because you thinketh you are being bashed, you are?
"Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. I don't know you."
(All the data below is self-reported data from Charity Navigator)
Note that Catholic Relief Services gets over 60% of their funding from government sources
Take a look at some of these local Catholic Charities' funding sources:
Catholic Charities Atlanta:
New Orleans:
East Bay (Oakland, etc):
Spokane:
And the winner (so far as I've seen), San Francisco:
Now, don't get me wrong, there are a few local diocesan Catholic Charities that do not take government funding. But they are the exception rather than the rule.
And keep in mind that many of the local Catholic Charities (to include DC, NYC, and Boston) don't even participate in Charity Navigator...so I shudder to think how much of their funding comes from the government.
The trouble is that when the government is so deeply embedded in the funding stream for these organizations, this is, of course, going to impact how they view the world. If you look at the political positions taken by CRS or Catholic Charities, they always oppose any kind of brakes being put on by Congress to bring spending under control. And, considering where they get their money, of course that would be the case.
The other thing with government funding is that a stipulation provided is that they have to provide services (including, in your case, counseling services) without regard to the religion of the person to whom they provide the service and with no religious content provided to that client. So, again, looking at your situation, rather than receiving the spiritual direction you needed, you got what was essentially secular psychological counseling.
This is not an apology for Catholic Charities. It is a condemnation. These agencies have made the foundational mistake of yoking themselves to unbelievers and being dragged down the road of perdition where they are being led by their secular sugar daddies.
There are a few examples where the Church has reigned in Catholic Charities. In Southern Illinois, faced with a rebellion on the part of the employees, the bishops cut them off. In Boston and DC (to the bishops' credit and my surprise), they stopped performing adoption work altogether. But those are the exception and only happened because Sugar Daddy (a/k/a the government) pushed a little too hard too fast.
I absolutely refuse to give one red cent to Catholic Charities USA, Catholic Relief Services, and my local diocesan Catholic Charities. The reason: they are little more than government social service agencies and, thank you very much, I already pay enough in taxes. My money will go to something else that is not so dependent. Like, for example, the Little Sisters of the Poor...who take NO government money for their important mission.
I would encourage my fellow Catholic FReepers to think hard before supporting these quasi-government agencies through second collections or mail-based fundraising drives.
This is as true of people ostensibly "in the Church" as of people "outside of the Church. Yes, there are people inside: wolves in sheep's clothing, and even worse, more damnable, wolves in Shepherds' clothing!
This nation of ours would be a far better, cleaner, more saneand more decent place if Cathoilics practiced their faith to the full. Everyone should pray for Catholics to be better Catholics.
As for these pro-homosexuality counselors, the whistle has to be blown on them. They need to be out of any position of influence unless and until they profess the teachings of Our Lord in their professional work.
Methinks if someone has went to the Salvation Army and was treated the exact same way the story would not have posted. Another day, another Catholic-bashing on FR.
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2012/12/04/Pope-Benedict-Catholic-Charities-Must-Uphold-Church-Teachings
In what some Catholics are calling a surprise move, Pope Benedict XVI issued an apostolic letter directing Catholic charities that they must act in complete compliance with Catholic teachings.
Cardinal Robert Sarah, head of the Pontifical Council that oversees the Churchs charities, had earlier warned of a silent apostasy within Catholic charities when he informed Caritas:
Today, dear friends, the tragedy of modern mankind is not lacking clothing and housing. The most tragic hunger and the most terrible anguish is not lack of food. Its much more about the absence of God and the lack of true love, the love that was revealed to us on the Cross.

The Director of Counseling Services at Catholic Charities in Dorchester, a facility that counsels pregnant women, volunteers his Saturdays escorting women into Planned Parenthoods abortion clinic in Boston.
The counselor is Howard M. Brown, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, who has been assisting Planned Parenthood in the Boston area as a volunteer for the last ten years, and in other states before that.
Neither the Archdiocese of Boston nor Catholic Charities of Greater Boston expressed concern over Browns abortion activities when contacted by MassNews. But ordinary people in the street say the situation is unacceptable and Brown should be fired.

Shockingly, March admitted that Catholic Charities were fully aware of Brown’s activities, but she said, “Catholic Charities’ hiring policies are more like a company’s hiring policies than, say, of the Archdiocese. We’re the social service agency of the Archdiocese, but we don’t discriminate based on religion, race, sexual orientation, or any of those types of things. Because we take federal money and that sort of thing, we have to adhere to separate hiring and firing regulations.”
It is absolutely appalling and reprehensible.
There is no wrong that the Catholic church can commit that some Catholics will not defend.
And then the Catholics beg people to come back and 8cross the Tiber*.
Unbelievable.
Those who can see clearly can see that there's a world of difference between what Catholic church *official* policy is and what is actually practiced in the real world at the grass roots level. The disconnect is tremendous and FRoman Catholics only end up trying to defend an ideal that does not exist.
In doing so, they show their unwillingness to admit the truth about the corruption and error in their church, which does not practice what it preaches.
Hypocrisy abounds within Catholicism.
It's too bad that Catholics don't spend more time trying to fix their own problems than attacking those who point them out as *haters* and *anti-Catholic bashers*.
If they cleaned house, there would be nothing left for others to point out their hypocrisy.
Praise God that you were delivered from that lifestyle and you have found God. He is good.
Can you say this about all Christian charities?
Catholic Charitiesand the same could be said about the Association of Jewish Family and Children's Agencies or the Lutheran Services in Americahas become over the last three decades an arm of the welfare state, with 65 percent of its $2.3 billion annual budget now flowing from government sources and little that is explicitly religious, or even values-laden, about most of the services its 1,400 member agencies and 46,000 paid employees provide. - How Catholic Charities Lost Its Soul ; https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=7587
daniel1212 Thanks for the link.
In Massachusetts, they facilitated thirteen adoptions by homosexual couples before they were exposed. They ceased facilitating adoptions because compliance with Church teaching conflicts with state licensing requirements. Putting up a legal fight would have put a damper on corporate and private donations (the St. Paddy's Day parade sponsorship withdrawals serve as a recent example of the financial punishment that goes with the territory).

I couldn't agree more. Support authentically Catholic ministries, those that serve the Church without compromising Her teachings.
