One Hundred Fifty Reasons I'm Catholic - And You Should Be Too!
http://www.ourcatholicfaith.org ^ | January 23, 2014 | Dave Armstrong

1. Best One-Sentence Summary: I am convinced that the Catholic Church conforms much more closely to all of the biblical data, offers the only coherent view of the history of Christianity (i.e., Christian, apostolic Tradition), and possesses the most profound and sublime Christian morality, spirituality, social ethic, and philosophy.

2. Alternate: I am a Catholic because I sincerely believe, by virtue of much cumulative evidence, that Catholicism is true, and that the Catholic Church is the visible Church divinely-established by our Lord Jesus, against which the gates of hell cannot and will not prevail (Mt 16:18), thereby possessing an authority to which I feel bound in Christian duty to submit.

3. 2nd Alternate: I left Protestantism because it was seriously deficient in its interpretation of the Bible (e.g., "faith alone" and many other "Catholic" doctrines - see evidences below), inconsistently selective in its espousal of various Catholic Traditions (e.g., the Canon of the Bible), inadequate in its ecclesiology, lacking a sensible view of Christian history (e.g., "Scripture alone"), compromised morally (e.g., contraception, divorce), and unbiblically schismatic, anarchical, and relativistic. I don't therefore believe that Protestantism is all bad (not by a long shot), but these are some of the major deficiencies I eventually saw as fatal to the "theory" of Protestantism, over against Catholicism. All Catholics must regard baptized, Nicene, Chalcedonian Protestants as Christians.

4. Catholicism isn't formally divided and sectarian (Jn 17:20-23; Rom 16:17; 1 Cor 1:10-13).

5. Catholic unity makes Christianity and Jesus more believable to the world (Jn 17:23).

6. Catholicism, because of its unified, complete, fully supernatural Christian vision, mitigates against secularization and humanism.

7. Catholicism avoids an unbiblical individualism which undermines Christian community (e.g., 1 Cor 12:25-26).

8. Catholicism avoids theological relativism, by means of dogmatic certainty and the centrality of the papacy.

And can you possibly quit posting “facts” from LIBERAL websites. I thought this was a board for conservatives.
Can you refrain from using liberal sources for your statistics. I have mentioned this to you before. Your credibility is shot.

You posted:

“That has to be the dumbest post I have seen in 14 years on FR. I guess you were not expecting so many Christians to expose your misguided religion of ordinances as being anti-Christian.”

Okiedokie, let’s look at what was previously posted, shall we?:

I posted:

“Jesus said He would establish the Church and He did. The Church is His Body, His Bride. The gospel and Church always go together. There is no way to separate them.”

You posted:

“That is correct.”

So, I posted:

“Thanks for admitting I was correct.”

And you responded with this little screed:

“That has to be the dumbest post I have seen in 14 years on FR. I guess you were not expecting so many Christians to expose your misguided religion of ordinances as being anti-Christian.”

I think the only thing that has been exposed is you.

You may want to check out the evangelical support for Newt and Santorum in the southern primaries in 2012. If one of the two above bowed out prior to southern primaries, we might not have had to go with Romney.

Newt Gingrich is a Southerne conservative. Why not support him? Rick Santorum is conservative. Why not support him. Both theirproblems was getting liberal Catholics in the NE to support them. They are doughnut Christie voters.

No doubt there is huge deception out there. I came across, on another site, a few months ago some poster discussing some “serpent seed doctrine.” Bizarre truly and of course such doctrines are stared by some man with a new or “refreshed” vision.

I don’t know why you quote Canon 1078. It’s not relevant.

False. The Church teaches (rhetorical excesses and flourishes of some of Her members notwithstanding) that Mary (Mother of God and Spouse of the Holy Spirit) points us to God, not that she herself possesses the power of God.

Except for the inconvenient fact that they attribute to her the characteristics of God Himself, in your very own CCC.

From the Catechism of the Catholic church....

http://www.vatican.va/archive/catechism/p123a9p6.htm

969 “This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation .... Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix.”510

Names of God from the Bible. Compare them to the names given to Mary in the above prayer.

Jesus

Hope (our) - 1 Timothy 1:1

Counselor - Isaiah 9:6

Advocate - 1 John 2:1

Mediator - 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 9:15, Hebrews 12:24

Holy Spirit

Comforter - John 14:26

Helper – John 14:16

This is worship of Mary if ever there was.....Attributing to her the attributes of God is idolatry.

Catholics do not pray to Mary or to saints as though they are somehow extensions of God. "For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus". The teachings of the Church are perfectly clear on this point, and anyone interested in the TRUTH regarding Catholic teaching can find it in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Ave Maria:

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

dan:“Catholics are majority pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, democrat voters”

NKP:How do you see with that head so far up something?

It fits in with everything that every Catholic with the exception of two here in the People's Republic of NY tell me about their voting record.

Every single last one of them - 2 have said, yes, democrats are prop-abortion, and I know what the church says, but, .......

And these are faithful, mass more than once a week, attending Catholics. And liberal to the core.

It didn't escape my notice that you failed again to actually answer my question. Until you do, this dialog cannot proceed. To remind you, this is what I am waiting to hear your answer to:

Do you accept that sincere, intellectually curious and honest people can arrive at a different conclusion? Do you believe that anyone who leaves the Roman Catholic Church after careful consideration, much prayer, intense study of Scripture and history can also be "sincere", "intellectually curious" and "honest"?

“You will find the portion you quoted and the full discourse here:”

What I did not find is the quote within the discourse you referred to at the link. Thus, you have again failed to provide the context you claimed to provide. Why do you keep doing that?

My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Magníficat ánima mea Dóminum,
et exsultávit spíritus meus
in Deo salvatóre meo,
quia respéxit humilitátem
ancíllæ suæ.

Ecce enim ex hoc beátam
me dicent omnes generatiónes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericórdia eius in progénies
et progénies timéntibus eum.
Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo,
dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui;
depósuit poténtes de sede
et exaltávit húmiles.
Esuriéntes implévit bonis
et dívites dimísit inánes.
Suscépit Ísrael púerum suum,
recordátus misericórdiæ,
sicut locútus est ad patres nostros,
Ábraham et sémini eius in sæcula.

Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.

Amen.

She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man’s understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God.

(Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther’s Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)
