Bigamy was against the law then and has always been ..

Sorry to tell you, but Brigham Young was beyond the reach of the U.S. Law at the time. Polygamy was a well established form of marriage for many societies throughout history. Because of the Homosexual loby, it will be very legal within the next decade in some if not all states.

I don't agree with either form of marriage, but facts is facts and while he's in Deseret/Utah it was not illegal to be a bigamist. That was a huge point of v\contention and required a change of LDS rules before Utah would be admitted to the union in the late 19th Century.

Little did we know how ahead of the game they where. If only they had rewarded sodomy they would have been ready for the 21st century.
