Do I go to mass tomorrow, and listen to a homily advocating amnesty for illegal immigrants? (Vanity)

Posted on 09/07/2013 3:59:35 PM PDT by steelhead_trout

Have head that tomorrow, September 8, parish priests, on order from their dioceses, will give homilies that unabashadly advocate amnesty for illegal aliens, that is, support the Obama administration's policy in this area. Last week's homily was, in my church, a taste of this; the priest worked (snuck?) the subject of immigration and immigrants into the homily. Since I've returned to the faith from a somewhat lapsed status over 4 years ago, I've endeavored not to miss any days of obligation. But I remember way back in 1982 when a priest gave an over-the-top homily supporting the nuclear "freeze" movement. I do not want to ever sit through something like that again. If I do, I will simply get up and walk out of church.

Stand up and tell them illegals are illegal plain and simple and if they push for amnesty tell them to pack sand, get up, walk out and find another church... tell them you want a rebate on donations.

Can this be real? Are you serious? This explains why the Catholic denomination is a pro-abortion/pro-homosexual agenda/pro-immigration, democrat voting denomination.

It sure appears that way.

Are you conservatives? Then do something for your church or for yourselves, or for America, but do something.

Sitting there, not doing anything, gives the appearance of condoning the message.

We non-Catholics keep being assured that things are changing in the Catholic church, but reading the posts in this thread, it doesn't seem to be the case.

*Go to a church where you can't understand the language*? REALLY?

*I go to a liberal parish*? Really?

Where's the change? It's not coming from the top down.

Ann: I need your help here. I'm being trolled by crazy people here who despise Catholicism and seem to spend all day long following around Catholics. I think they're trying to drive people off Free Republic. Sick people!

First off, I would suggest you fall back to your home and read the Holy Scriptures which is God’s Word, infalliable and inerrant and the truth that every man should know for life and afterlife.
Second, you would then know the truth of God and His Christ, then pray fervently for the Holy Spirit to guide you to a Bible believing church that worships only Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and there you will be with those who know the truth and practice it in their lives having been saved from the sin that so easily besets us. You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. The truth is the truth and can only be found in the Scriptures of Christ Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the life of all who believe how He alone was crucified for our sins and rose again the third day for our justification. He will make changes in you that will enlighten you as to who is lying and who is not. Many church leaders do not know or preach the truth of God as only the Scriptures teach.

Go, pray, ignore.

We actually don't have Mass tomorrow. Visiting priest comes only a couple Sundays a month. But I certainly will do the "pray" part anyway.

You immediately need to find a Bible believing church and go there. Too many churches including non-Catholic are just going through the motions. Making big deals of every social issue We are in the last days. Am going through World Net Daily’s New Testament on DVD and have sent a copy to all of our families. Suggest if you can’t find another church get the WatchWord New Taestament set and go through the New Testament. . .you won’t be disappointed! Buy it anyway. . .it is worth the watch.

I will leave (politely but firmly) before the sermon.

Then again, as a “perpetual usher” I’m not sure the movement will be as obvious as if I were standing in pews during the Gospel before the “sermon”, but I won’t sit there through it.

(Odd isn’t it, that the Catholic Church CANNOT do anything “political” during or before a real election about what it cares about (abortion, mandatory liberal/communist doctrine, murder (er, health care socialism), or voter fraud) but here - when it suites the needs of the Obama dogma, the IRS has no problem with political speech from a podium. )

It is acceptable and Christ like for the Priest to encourage compassion for the law breaker. It is not acceptable for a priest to advocate law breaking.

I was raised in the southern baptist church. I walked out one day and never went back. I wiped my shoes off of it, without comment.

I then became a very active member of the Episcopal church. When I wiped my shoes of that one...I did it before a meeting of the Deacons. I know how superior they felt, but that is none of my business. It’s between them and God.

I am no longer a member of any Church or Religion. A Church is only a building. It is who we associate with that is important. I associate with Christians. My husband and I pray together (and separately) daily.

I have no need of the corrupted churches infiltrating this country.

I converted to the Catholic Church after deciding that it is the one true Church of which Jesus spoke. I grew up as an Episcopalian, and actually got a great deal from it, but it became increasingly obvious that it was not “catholic” or universal in the Nicene sense, since it was limited to England and its colonies, and didn’t appear on the scene until more than 1500 years after Christ ascended into heaven.

I go to Mass to worship God, and to receive the great gift of the Eucharistic Sacrament. Jesus said, “Unless you eat of my flesh and drink of my blood, you shall not have life within you.”

I’ve encountered some annoying priests over the years, but they still provide the Sacraments, which is the basic need.

In any case, if you walk out, you really aren’t short-changing anyone but yourself. Talk to the priest about it, after Mass or in a visit to the rectory, if you feel really strongly about what he says in the sermon. Or, who knows, maybe the sermon will be OK after all.

You may enjoy this:

Sept 15th 1964, Yom Kippur began..the holiest day of the Jewish year. I was 16, and at services that night with my parents and younger brother.

The rabbi devoted most of his sermon as to why Jews should NOT vote for Barry Goldwater in November. (If you recall, Goldwater family's was part Jewish.)

I was a junior usher, so I had scored great seats for my family..8th row..near the center aisle. I went to sit with them during the sermon as is customary.

When the rabbi really got going against Goldwater, I stood up, stepped out into the aisle, and walked out out, right down the aisle, out the door, in front of a packed temple, about 800 people, many who were friends, most of whom knew me.

My mother was speechless. I think she was traumatized. Until the day she died, 44 years later, she NEVER got over it.

This was midweek, either a Tuesday or a Wednesday evening. The next Saturday, when I showed up to usher on Sabbath services, I was called into the rabbi's study. The cantor was there, along with several of the heads of the congregation.

Before they could start in, I told them that the rabbi was my spiritual adviser, and NOT my political mentor. I said I would do it again, if he did it again.

As I was leaving the room, I told them that I would be happy to leave my copies of "National Review" in the temple library.

The next year I was off to college, and never went back.

Postscript: This was in the Bronx, which until the 60's was heavily middle class Jewish, but was just then beginning to change rapidly, and unfortunately, for the worse. MY parents had moved to the suburbs about 5 years earlier, but continued to attend because of many long friendships.

In the mid 90's, I had to drive down to the Bronx VA to visit someone, and happened to drive right past the temple. The building is now a mosque.

I'll do whatever I can when I see ignorant, anti-Catholic posts, but my best friend was RAISED, I mean RAISED on HATRED for Catholics. They are Baptists and it seems like all their Church did was put down any and all Catholic beliefs. She is Brain-Washed to be anti-Catholic!! When I told her that Baptists nor any other Protestant group was NEVER MENTIONED in my 12 YEARS of CATHOLIC EDUCATION or in our home, or really with any of my friends, she could NOT believe it!!

I chalk it up as jealousy that they can trace their sect starting within the last 400 years or MUCH LESS....started by mere men breaking away from the ONE, TRUE CHURCH that was established by Jesus to Peter. We have to PRAY for them.

Go, pray, ignore.

That is the same as advocating it. Pray at home. Break bread together, have communion. Is a priest the only one who can bless?

I think not.

I know what you mean. I used to go to a church and walked out during mass when the priest was condoning illegal immigration and ‘making all immigrants feel welcome’. He was a left wing hack and quite arrogant. I never went back to that church. I found another church with a priest who openly calls out catholics for supporting abortion and same sex marriage and Obama’s assault on religious freedom. Lots of parishoners do not like him; I think he’s great. He says what needs to be said, and people do not like to hear the truth.

Follow your heart.
