The Catholics certainly feel the corrupting influence of Luther, especially in America where we mingle with the Protestant arrogance all the time. However, I am comparing the doctrines. The Catholic doctrine is fasting, other forms of mortification of flesh, monasticism, work in defense of innocent life, as a necessary part of the ongoing salvation. At least we don't hold to the presumption of being saved already or sanctified already.
Your sophistry is too much, from your absurd explanations as to why we see not a single prayer in Scripture to anyone in Heaven but the Lord, to blaming Luther for liberal RCs!
As regards the latter, the fact is that the places that have the less influence of Luther (least amounts of Prots) are the most liberal Catholic areas, not vice versa. Stop trying to spin the facts.
The Catholic doctrine is fasting, other forms of mortification of flesh, monasticism, work in defense of innocent life, as a necessary part of the ongoing salvation.
And classic evangelical works abound which teach self denial, fasting and dying to the flesh and the world, but this hardly represents Catholicism (nor liberal Prots), nor does Rome treat the typical RC who lives much the opposite as other than being Catholic, even in death.
At least we don't hold to the presumption of being saved already or sanctified already.
Indeed, for while Scripture provides the truth and criteria by which one may know they presently have eternal life (1Jn. 5:23) and for growth in grace in this life unto making their "calling and election sure," (2Pt. 1:1-11) RCs are effectually taught that the most nominal souls are members and have hope of eternal life by becoming good enough to enter Heaven thru sufferings commencing at death, and by the power of Rome. Easy believism Roman style .
Luther; horrified over the corruption of his beloved church, challenged the arrogant leadship of the RCC with 95 questions and/or complaints.
As a result; the church cleaned up her act a bit.
