To borrow from the musical group The Kinks, you know its a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world when Russian president Vladimir Putin becomes the leading voice for stopping the violent persecutions against Christians while the president of the United States stands silent.
Speaking at a meeting with Orthodox Christian leaders in Moscow last week, according to Life Site News, Putin said he noted with alarm that in many of the worlds regions inter-confessional tensions are mounting, and the rights of religious minorities are infringed, including Christians and Orthodox Christians.
In emphasizing the Middle East and North Africa, Putin said:
This pressing problem should be a subject of close attention for the entire international community. It is especially important today to make efforts to prevent intercultural and interreligious conflicts, which are fraught with the most serious upheavals.
Christians in Syria have suffered greatly amid a deadly civil war there, as have Coptic Christians in Egypt while under Muslim Brotherhood rule. There has also been a rapid decline of Iraqs Christian population since 2003. All of which has largely been ignored by the Obama administration.
Nina Shea, Director of the Center for Religious Freedom and a Hudson Institute Fellow, said during an appearance at CPAC in March that religious persecution is the gravest human rights crisis of our day, as reported by Breitbart News.
Shea noted then that the Obama administration has been silent on the issue of global Christian persecution, and she had little hope of improvement. I have every expectation this problem will become worse between now and the end of the Obama administration, she said.
Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., a co-chairman of the House of Representatives Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, has been critical of the U.S. governments anemic and at times outright baffling response to the treatment of Christians in the Mideast, according to the National Catholic Register.
America has always been a friend to the oppressed, the persecuted, the forgotten. But, sadly, today, that allegiance is in question, as religious freedom and human-rights abuses around the globe increasingly go unaddressed and unanswered, Wolf said last month.
Yes, we may have passed through the looking glass if Christians must look to Russia for protection. A mixed up, muddled up, shook up world, indeed.
Yep. There is truth to that. I don’t think he really regards any god, though. Unless you include himself.
There’s hope for this country down the road.
We may go the route of the USSR before that, unfortunately, but who would have thought they’d turn around like they have.
Problem is, much damage has been done to their culture and society in the meantime.
This is not as extraordinary as it sounds. Russia has been a Christian nation for a very long time, and it takes Christianity seriously.
“In the 10th century the ruler of Kievan Rus, Prince Vladimir, chose Orthodox Christianity over the other religions of that time. In the years 988-991 AD mass Orthodox baptisms took place in Kiev; Grand Prince Vladimir made Orthodox Christianity the national religion of Rus it remained so until 1917. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 the Orthodox Church has resumed its position as the main religion of the nation.”
Thank you Putin. You are a better leader than ours.
Ours doesn’t care about Christians or Jews. He does care a lot about the middle eastern cult that is trying to wipe out Christians and Jews.
Russia is point on this, no nation has traveled this road before.
The good news is that Putin, Medvedev and many other Russian politicians are going in the right direction. We'll have to wait and see how well it works out.Russia has the resources, population and intelligence to rekindle market and personal liberty, we will see if they do it.
He does care a lot about...cult...and golf...and vacation.
obama be hate’n him some Christians.
I’m liking Putin more and more these days.
Careful there....don't you think Putin has always been more than a bit slippery and perhaps is thoroughly enjoying playing with this inexperienced president? It is a cat and mouse game with Mr. Putin, he would snap your head off at the slightest provocation.
and the dem’s wouldn’t?
It’s nice to see a world leader like Putin unabashedly standing up for his faith, his convictions, and defending his nations values. That’s a rare thing today, in a world of narcissistic and self-serving heads of state. I’m also glad he has the balls to not allow his country to be bullied by the loser we ended up with.
If you want go study Orthdorx Christianity in Russia watch History channel Russia Lands of the tsar I think on you tube google it really good
