Id heard rumors that Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Louisiana family that stars in the hit TV show Duck Dynasty, was a faithful Christ follower.
I confess I wasnt convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. Not the least because there is always hearsay about this celebrity or that public figure, which, upon close scrutiny, turns out to be fiction.
(Indeed, its often been said that Barack Obama is a Christian. But no true Christ follower would undermine the institution of marriage, as Obama has. And only a false-hearted Christian, like Obama, would pledge allegiance to Americas unGodly abortion-industrial complex.).
Anyway, I went to see Robertson in person last weekend, to hear his testimony for myself. And after listening intently to his message, I am persuaded the anointing of God truly is upon him.
Robertson told a church congregation that he was unsaved when he famously invented the Duck Commander Duck Call back in 1973; that he was wasting his substance with riotous living.
Hard drinking. Whoremongering.
Indeed, a handsome young man, a college football quarterback who actually played in front of Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech he would often meet a woman in some bar or another and tell her, I think I love you. Now take off your britches.
Then Robertson experienced a game-changing event in his young life. I heard the good news of Jesus Christ, he testified. And after stumbling along in darkness, he said, he finally saw the light.
He realized, The devil had me by the throat and I didnt even know it.
And he spoke the truth with love to the unsaved souls in the congregation, many of whom wore camouflage in the Duck Commanders honor. You can run sex, drugs and rock and roll for a little while, but there eventually is a price to pay.
He urged them to turn to the Lord, Who will forgive them their sins and cleanse them of all unrighteousness.
The rarest commodity in the world is peace of mind, said Robertson. And you can only find that through Jesus Christ.
What I found most disarming about Robertsons testimony was his humility. Dont glorify me, said the co-star of the A&E channels most popular show (which reached 9.6 million viewers for the final episode of its most recent season).
To God be the glory.
And Robertson has proven that he is not ashamed of the gospel, no matter how much fame and fortune Duck Dynasty has brought him.
Indeed, he confided that the producers of his A&E show took him aside at one point and asked if he would stop invoking the name of the Lord when the family prayed over supper. They worried that some of the shows non-Christian viewers might be offended.
Well, after the chat with his producers, Robertson once again led his family in saying grace. Lord, he prayed, give them (the shows producers) the sense to repent before you burn them.
Thats what I call a stand-up Christian. And I pray continued blessings upon Phil Robertson and his wonderful family.
Bless your heart.
Hit a nerve? Or do you like watching our society go down the drain. What next? You going on a pro-choice rally? Come on Windflier you are better than that.
Naps, you really ought to explain what you find so objectionable about Duck Dynasty. Most folks around here think it's a wholesome show, featuring a real family of successful entrepreneurs who also happen to be honestly decent people.
On top of that, the father (at least) is a genuinely religious man.
Oh, and the show is actually funny. Humor is a good thing, and is sorely needed in such a dreary time as this.
It makes white people look stupid. They are the stereotype that is negative to whites. Honey Boo Boo is the same way. Whenever blacks see whites, they think of those two shows. I don’t care if they are Christians. I am not impressed with Christian entertainment after seeing that horrid “American Carol” which I hated so badly and everyone on Free Republic was high fiving each other over it.
Are we even watching the same show? Honey Boo Boo ( which I could stand all of about five minutes of) is not even in the same realm as Duck Dynasty.
Well, I'm not white, and I don't see anything negative about the characters in Duck Dynasty.
Matter of fact, I love rednecks. I think they're the salt of the earth. Some of the best people I've ever known.
Now I know you are have never truly watched. I can agree some scenes are stupid, but bad for society? A family that the least of marriages number over 20 years? Other than you not liking beards is that bad for society?
bttt
Just a reminder that this is the Religion Forum where potty talk, cursing, personal attacks, substitution of vulgar, profane words with similar sounding words are strictly prohibited. Use of any of the above in posting shall result in a swift and mighty Smiting!
Well not an actual Smite, but you get the point. Those who do not get the point shall have their posts removed and...
Thank you and carry on now.
I've hunted and fished with both fundamental Christian Bircher friend my dad had and at other times with one of his Libertarian friends whom every hunting trip turned into some sort of misadventure finding us in now looking back on it good memories and hilarious circumstances. Ever tried to catch a half grown Coon with a jacket? LOL.
The guys in the show are good sports. They laugh at themselves. That is part of what makes hunting and fishing with friends fun. Phil for example tricked his son's into fishing a friends private pond {a local judge} and leaves the guys to deal with the game warden while he quietly slips away.
The one who is one of the funniest playing a stooge is Phil's brother Si. On the show you'd think he's single and never married never had kids. He's married to his wife of over 40 years and has a successful daughter. He had a successful Army career and is a Nam Vet. To protect their privacy neither wife nor daughter was ever mentioned except this past season. Si is also shown giving Willie who runs the company so very fatherly advice in dealing with his daughters Prom.
Of all the misadventures I had in my younger days I can related to the show. Like my dads Fundamental walk the straight and narrow friends quirk for dealing with black bears when w were hiking. He was trying to run off a Boar Bear as he called it when we were back country hiking. He tossed rocks at it yelling at the bear while we were eating lunch. Now normally with a black male bear that works. It does not work on a Sow Bear with two cubs she sent up a tree. LOL. Years later we still laugh. It's called life.
LOL Beards? I've had mine this time since 1985 for a lifetime total of 34 years now. It came off for a year long National Guard stint starting in 1984. Before that I grew it in the Navy in 1977 as soon as I got to my ship and it came off for a total of 9 months in my 4 year time on-board due to being assigned to Fire Department as a nozzle-man for two stints. My Chiefs had beards half the officers did as did half my shop. My wife of 28 years has not seen me without it nor does she want too LOL. It's a part of my physical appearance that's been there most of my life.
I do have some fun with it. I used to work in nursing homes and patients called me Santa a lot. My Sis is in a memory care facility and the patients there call me Santa. I've found out many years ago the beard doesn't matter. It's how I treat others that matters when I talk to people. IOW some basic manners. Oh yea when I grew a beard my dad did as well. We called it The Ugly Contest. I went on a six month deployment to the Med Sea and came home. We decided we was both winners of the contest.
“Tonight I’ll watch Mountain Men. One person I consider a flat out phoney. He goes out of his way to make simple things difficult. He also took a pair of horses into a busy city”
Is that the one with Eustis? His hillbilly farm is eight miles from Burger King, Walmart, Lowes, etc.
I bet you missed the chanting episode. He gets a cold or something then goes into a sauna & starts chanting Mother Nature Mother Nature LOL.
