Fatima, Harissa, Damascus, Samalut, Assiut, Zeitun and many other places where the Virgin appeared are the destination of incessant pilgrimages from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iran. Pilgrims in search of physical but also spiritual healing; spontaneous and mystical prayer and not the schematic and formal verses of official Islam. The iconoclast Salafists destroy places of pilgrimage every year. But the devotion to Mary is growing, also fueled by the stories of the Koran. The spiritual dialogue between Christians and Muslims is much more promising than cultural, theological or political dialogue.
Beirut (AsiaNews) - Each year millions of Muslims come on pilgrimage to the Catholic Marian shrines. Not only to the major shrines such as Fatima in Portugal or Harissa in Lebanon, but also to Egypt, Syria, Iran. Muslims - especially Muslim women - go to give thanks to the Madonna or great Christian saints, like St. Charbel or St. George.
In the eyes of many Westerners these gestures seem ridiculous or false: they speak of apparitions, of prayers, but then there are massacres, killings, violence in the name of religion!
Like it or not, the religious phenomenon is alive in Latin America, in Africa, in Asia. When you see millions of Hindus go to bathe in the dirty water of the sacred river it may seem like a ridiculous thing. Yet for those who do it is an act of purification, of prayer. The West is tolerant and benevolent towards other religions, but its attitude towards Christians is increasingly hypercritical. The West is not post-Hindu, post-Islam. It is only post-Christian!
The point is that in the West, the supernatural is considered outdated, it is branded as mythology, illusion, instead the West is forever denouncing the difficulties that neither miracles nor pilgrimages can erase.
But in the rest of the world the spiritual.....

The personal stuff came after my initial response to your diatribe about Free Republic having stealth "democrat fascists" coming here spreading "propaganda" and lying about the Catholic Church in order to cause divisions. Go back to that reply and reread it.
And we don't have a dog. We have two kittehs. :o)
I knew youd say something cruel.
Mind reading now?
And yet I was right. He did indeed say something smirking and cruel.
I assume you agree with him that Genesis is true only "typologically." I hope you feel really good about that.
So, is "Biblical literalism" a Masonic plot or something? Honestly, I can't for the life of me tell any difference between the Catholic position on the Bible and that of Voltaire.
Torah and Tanakh are what the NT writers are refering to when they say “scripture,” not to the KJV or Douay.
Fancis was way better than Mr. Ed.
Yes, matter of fact, I was aware of that. Intentional sin usually got the death penalty, IIRC.
We may be worlds apart in some of what we believe, but I do believe that the OT (as I know it) is divinely inspired, true, and historically accurate.
I accept it as God's revelation to us.

The King James was written when? What ARE you trying to say?

I see, it was the idea that someone might present themselves as something they’re not that got you upset. Interesting.
Let me get this straight, Jesus Christ is an impostor and Christians are all dupes because Jesus Christ thinks Genesis is a fraud?
What makes you think Jesus Christ who IS the Word thinks Genesis is a fraud?
I was talking about the Catholic Church, not J*sus.
As I said in a prior post, I am getting sick and tired of hypocritical Catholics reacting so angrily whenever I point out the Biblical orientation of the vast majority of the earth's Catholics, very much including those on FR. Your "enlightened" co-religionists post their smirking doubts about the truth of the Bible quite often, yet you lot never seem to see it. How do you manage that, exactly? Exactly what game are you playing, pretending that this isn't so? What about your co-religionist sfassisi's remark about Genesis being true "typologically" (but not historically, it is implied). But no, you never see that, or if you do you never reply to it. Or what about the smirking rationalist who made the crack about those silly people who believe there really was a Biblical Flood and an Ark? Where were you then? Checking your watch, I suppose?
You Catholics are always ready to jump down my throat for pointing out the simple obvious fact that most Catholic FReepers do not regard Genesis as historically accurate, yet when your co-religionists are actually exhibiting this attitude you are nowhere to be found.
I understand that as a Lutheran convert you're really trying to be gung-ho and demonstrate your loyalty. I don't know if to do this you have either become a higher critic yourself or if you just keep your head stuck in the ground so you won't have any cognitive dissonance. But facts are facts. If you do indeed believe the total Bible is totally inerrant on all subjects whatsoever, then why don't you challenge your Bible-hating co-religionists when they're running the Scriptures down as the untrustworthy product of a naive, pre-scientific era?
I was a member of your Church for about six years. My conscience tormented me because of my implication in such a liberal religion that essentially called G-d a liar. You may have found a way to deal with the situation, but I can't say that I admire you for ignoring your conscience.
You either challenge your co-religionists on the Bible or I will. And I don't think your attacking me for defending G-d's Word is very noble.
I believe the phrase *Shooting themselves in the foot* is appropriate for the situation.
>> “It seems to be the Catholic stock in trade.” <<
.
Belittling the written word of Yehova, and inventing their own rules.
Well, whatever you were talking about I specifically asked you about Jesus Christ.
Now, who convinced you that Jesus Christ, God from God, doesn't take His Word seriously given the fact that Jesus Christ is The Word incarnate?
Salvation, I don't enjoy exchanging posts with you for two reasons: 1)you never seem to get what I am saying, and 2)you never have anything to say when your co-religionists are denying the truth of the Bible. You sit there, so traditional, so old-fashioned, and you say absolutely nothing. You're obviously a good person and we do not know one another personally, so I am reluctant to say anything further because, to be quite frank, I am sick of this attitude of the "conservative" Catholics here that there is no higher Biblical criticism in the highest and most authoritative circles of the Catholic Church. And right now after arguing with other Catholics I do not want to say something mean and hateful that I would very much regret.
Even though this will probably be for nothing, I was not defending Masonry, for which I have no use. I was pointing out the jarring irony in Catholics who sound like Pius X when they talk about Masonry but who sound like Voltaire when they talk about Genesis.
Until you confront the fact that your co-religionists don't take the Bible seriously, I have nothing further to say to you. But since you refuse to be part of the solution, at least have the decency not to be part of the problem.
I will continue to challenge your Bible-hating co-religionists. I advise you to stop punishing me for doing your job for you.
The queen is a freemason.
Amazing. Asking you about Jesus Christ is punishment? How is asking you to explain yourself being part of the problem or some sort of punishment?
I didn’t get that message at all.
