We ask living Christian believers to pray to God for us, so it is not wrong to ask those who have gone home to God to pray to God on our behalf as well.

Wrong because we can ask other living on this planet believers to pray for us without having to do it through the spiritual realm. We can do it by means of physically talking to them, or writing them notes. We do not have to do it outside the physical realm.

Those whose bodies have died are not accessible by physical means, but must be contacted through spiritual means in the spiritual realm.

THAT is what we are forbidden to do.

Can you see that conjuring spirits, to gain secret information, is different from asking the saints in heaven to pray for us?

What, in principle, could be wrong with asking the saints to pray for us? Are they evil?

Scripture shows us that the saints hear our prayers, and present them to God.

Rev 5:8

And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God's people.

Protestants often criticize Catholics for clinging to religious dogma, when they don't realize that they are following Protestant dogmas, and erroneous interpretations of Scripture, which they mistake as their own infallible interpretation of Scripture.

Protestantism treats the Bible as a dead letter, since under Protestant teaching, there exists no earthly authority to interpret Scripture infallibly, except, presumably, the individual believer (!). The temptation to pride is obvious, as each Protestant clings to his or her own (infallible?) interpretation of Scripture.

Most of the religion threads are chock full of “I got you’ isms and arguments by assertion but this one seems unusually so.

It would be refreshing to see a bit of logical thought follow the Scriptural quotes...for example the apostle Paul told Timothy that the church was a pillar and ground of the truth. (1 Tim. 3:15) but why go that next step and show what that “truth” was?

“Your word is truth”, said Jesus (John 17:17) referring to the Hebrew or OT Scriptures.

So for this thread that's already more than I intended. Cheers!

Exactly...We (and they) don't know for certain that anyone we might pray to in heaven is actually there...Aside from Jesus, that is...

Exactly Metmom....

...there's no reason for any Christian to pursue the spiritual realm when we are already now ‘complete’ in Christ. To seek ‘something more’ in the spiritual realm is to accuse Christ of being insufficient to meet our needs....and defying Him for doing what He has clearly said not to do.

The fact is , many desire “Experiences” in the spiritual realm because they have not developed a relationship with Christ Himself...their practice is “religiosity” and “churchianity” instead of speaking directly and often with our Saviour as one would someone they love and admire...though of course it's much more than that when we do so.

....they cannot see that they need their faith to be stretched to “believe without seeing” or appealing to the senses, be it touch taste or feelings. They want proof...proof that He is ..and believe that “experiences” can attain this for them.

... Others have a desire to feel"special" or privileged....which comes from not accepting and believing the special and privileged state they already have in Christ.

Jesus Christ is truly and fully sufficient for each and every individual..and He said that He is..."My Grace is sufficient for thee"....
