Amen and thank God for His grace.
Because I asked my question first and you wont answer it.
BTW Its common courtesy to ping someone you are talking about. And asking someone else why I dont do something is rather ridiculous.
I do and have here often.
You havent answered my question still. Its a simple question.
By asking Jesus to forgive me and give me eternal life.
John 1:12-13 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
Acts 16:29-31 29 And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.
Romans 10:8-13 8 But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame. 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Ephesians 3:14-19 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faiththat you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Galatians 2:20-21 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
#1...Surely, you've heard the phrase "imprecatory psalms"??? [If not, please proceed to about 14 or so to become familiarized...5, 10, 17, 35, 58, 59, 69, 70, 79, 83, 109, 129, 137, 140]. Indeed, this is less than 10% of the Psalms...as indeed over 90% of our prayers should focus on things beyond righteous indignation...but there is such a thing in the Bible as that...righteous indignation.
Look it up sometime. Familiarize yourself (enough) with these Biblical concepts as relayed by a socially righteous, holy and just God.
As a matter of fact, the Jews have a tradition called "Purim" related to this concept of righteous indignation...based upon what occurred in the book of Esther.
So...by all means...censor this Jewish tradition if you will -- if it falls outside the realm of what you recognize as your given theological "purity..."...And while you're at it, take some scissors & cut out all those imprecatory Psalms. [You can lecture these Psalmists for including them in the Psalms when you get to heaven, scolding them for "encouraging" global vengeance, right?]
And #2, if things like Jewish holocausts or mass murder (like abortion & other violent acts) doesn't "distress" you, please go ahead & object to other portions of scripture...like Ezekiel 9...where Ezekiel has this vision that those NOT distressed over the violence going on in a city would be the ones targeted for destruction by God's angels of death.
Why...go ahead & preach your blase' "gospel" of "tolerance" of all things evil...Something that some people in some cultures have not had that "luxury" thru all generations.
I don’t care about men’s opinions.
Have you read the Bible? Read it and get back to me.
Most Christians are willing to share Jesus.
Salvation is through a person, not a church.
Even the guy you guys claim as your first pope says so.
Acts 4:11-12 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
For long centuries, the Church has referred to certain Old Testament persons as Saints.
The ancient MARTYROLOGIUM ROMANUM (the Churchs official calendar book of saints) that was re-edited and re-published in 2001 lists the days of several Old Testament saintsand calls them by the title Saint.
Saint Melchisedech, August 26.
Saint Abraham, October 9.
Saint Moses, September 4.
Saint Joshua, September 1.
Saint Ezra, July 13.
Saint Hosea, October 17.
Saint Obadiah, November 19.
Saint Jonah, September 21.
Saint Elijah, July 20.
Saint Elisha, June 14.
Saint Jeremiah, May 1.
Saint Samuel, August 20.
Saint David, December 29.
Saint Michael and Saint Raphael, September 29.
Saint Isaiah, May 9.
Saint Job, May 10.
Saint Zechariah, September 6.
Saint Joel, October 19.
Saint Amos, June 15.
Saint Ezekiel, July 23.
Saint Nahum, December 1.
Saint Habakkuk, December 2.
Saint Zephaniah, December 3.
Saint Haggai, December 16.
Saint Malachi, December 18.
Saint Micah, December 21.
All the Forefather Saints of Jesus Christ, December 24. (In Latin this can include foremothers. I looked for Old Testament womens names, but didnt find any
yet. The book has nearly 800 pages.) Notice the prophets in December
leading up to the Birth of the Savior.
Well, we can't say that heaven has "chronological time" like earth...Yet even John in the book of Revelation gives a time period there where there was "silence in heaven for half an hour" (Rev. 8:1)...
What I mean is, when we review Rev. 6, your comment that there was "no indication those souls under the altar knew that there were more left on earth that would have to give up their lives" is possible...and probably "likely" to be the case...for departed saints are not omniscient.
Yet, I find it a bizarre thread when posters ignore obvious words written in the Scriptures ... words we can take at face value.
And for however heaven "measures time," your "indication" comment is correct up thru their raised petition & up until they receive a "response" from God.
You see, the "dead giveaway" that your "indication" didn't remain that ways arrives in a wee little phrase in Rev. 6:11...And let's "unveil" the curtain to see what that phrase is...
[Trumpets please]: "...they were TOLD...
So, there ya go. Pre petition? (Yeah, I buy your claim)
Post response from God? (Hey, when an omniscient God responds to your petition and TELLS you something..."indication" isn't the right verbiage to nab for your keyboard)
And that is according to God's will for us:
I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, - Phm 1:4
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. - I Timothy 2:8
OK, right off the bat I told E-S: "Surely, you've heard the phrase "imprecatory psalms"??? [If not, please proceed to about 14 or so to become familiarized...5, 10, 17, 35, 58, 59, 69, 70, 79, 83, 109, 129, 137, 140]."
CB, what do you think those imprecatory Psalms are, if not prayers & some other petitions of the Lord (set to music)???
Psalms 83 and 109 start off "O Lord" and "My God" and Ps. 140 starts off "Rescue me, Lord"...and Psalm 17 even gives you a huge clue in the NIV version by titling it: "A PRAYER of David" ...Psalms 5, 10, 35 are OBVIOUS prayers!!!
Do you ever actually consult Scripture before conjecturing away on your opinions?
You know, we are ALL ignorant -- including/especially ME -- on many things...The difference here is that I usually don't try to export it on things I don't know what I'm talking about!
(Please stop embarrassing yourself)
“I dont care about mens opinions.”
I see. So you don’t care about the Trinity either then. Thank you.
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted of God. (2 Cor. 1:3,4)
“By asking Jesus to forgive me and give me eternal life.”
Are you claiming Jesus appeared to you?
How did you find out about Jesus in the first place?
And my question is rather simple too.
“Do you believe you can pick and choose doctrine?”
“Salvation is through a person, not a church.”
Gonna need a quote for this.
(I never claimed there was such communication...Rev. 6:11 clearly shows these departed saints DID receive communication on this matter from an omniscient God...whom I can assure you "could see" EVERYTHING "on earth" no matter where He is at!)
Allow me also to reiterate what I said in my initial post on this thread...post #777: b) I believe prayer is reserved as the Bible depicts it -- as to be directed to God alone; (c) The apostle Paul's counsel to Timothy about Jesus being the ONLY MEDIATOR is downright ignored by Catholic doctrinaires & Catholics who advocate praying to entities beyond God;
The reason I posted Rev. 6:9-11 to begin with was NOT to try to make any case that departed saints receive prayers from saints on earth...Rather, 'twas CynicalBear's clamoring in post #663: "So show me from scripture where those who passed from this life after Christs resurrection have an active role in what goes on here on earth.
(So I showed her)
JCB:I see. So you dont care about the Trinity either then. Thank you.
So you think that the Trinity is man's opinion?
Don't Catholics believe anything supported by Scripture?
