What would Jesus drive?

Pope Francis said on Saturday it pained him to see priests driving flashy cars, and told them to pick something more "humble".

As part of his drive to make the Catholic Church more austere and focus on the poor, Francis told young and trainee priests and nuns from around the world that having the latest smartphone or fashion accessory was not the route to happiness.

"It hurts me when I see a priest or a nun with the latest model car, you can't do this," he said.

"A car is necessary to do a lot of work, but please, choose a more humble one. If you like the fancy one, just think about how many children are dying of hunger in the world," he said.

Jesus would drive a Knight XV because everyone would utter his name when they saw it coming down the street. Here is a comparison to a Hummer 2.

Perhaps Jesus would drive something like my dented 94 Geo Metro. It could take you from Galilee to Jerusalem for about $7 of gasoline.

"Or maybe he doesn’t care. He seems quite happy to prostrate himself before the Muslim invaders."

Like when he canonized the 800 Martyrs of Otranto and hurt the Turks' widdle feewings?

Which is it? Did the family have “wealth” or was Joseph a “poor carpenter” - you’ve made each assertion here...I made No assertion, at all. I merely presented evidence Joseph was a wealthy individual, unlike the assertions made by those who may have changed the language of the Bible. If you know, what actually what was the name of Jesus in the original manuscripts the Bible was copied from over 400 years? Issa, Jesus, what?

Class warfare in the church?

"He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
And raised up the lowly,
He has filled the poor with good things,
And sent the rich away empty-handed."
"

They'll have to get rid of Mary then. Might want to cut out the whole Gospel of Luke, just be sure.

But it says that when Jesus was presented in the Temple as an infant, his parents offered not a ram or a lamb, but their gift of two turtldoves-— which was the offering of the poor.

What documents are you defining as the "original manuscripts"?

Wonder what the Pope considers “fancy”?

This is what HE rides in.

Maybe he'll downsize as well?

while I agree with the Pope, what he's asking for is very, very difficult for any priest or pastor. As laity, we can hardly think of this. Of course, monks need to give up all the material luxuries, but most priests don't take that vow of poverty. The Jesuits, as religious, DO take it -- I know many Jesuit priests in India who really just own two set of clothes, their shoes and their Bible.

Think of it -- it's hard. To put it for non-Catholics, there is always someone gossiping about the Vicar and his wife about their clothes and food etc.

So, I'm torn -- I agree that it is good for all of us not to be enticed by pure materialism, but we as laity should also do the same as we expect the ministers to do

well, remember he’s talking about priests and nuns only. And the fact is that if we see a priest with a fancy car, tongues start wagging....
