In a segment titled God and Hitler, Gordon Robertson (son of Rev. Pat Robertson), hosted a discussion on the Catholic Churchs response to Hitler. Several errors of fact were made.
1) It is wrong to paint Hitler as a Catholic. Though he was baptized, he excommunicated himself, latae sententiae, when he sought, in his words, to crush [the Catholic Church] like a toad. He made good on his pledge by persecuting 8,000 priests, over 500 of whom were killed in concentration camps. He also sought to assassinate the pope.
2) The 1933 Nazi-Vatican Concordat was not a show of solidarity. As Rabbi David Dalin has shown, it was a protective measure designed to protect German Catholics from persecution. In fact, at least 34 letters of protest were sent from the Vatican to the Nazis between 1933 and 1937, culminating in a 1937 encyclical that condemned Nazi violations of the Concordat and its racial ideology. It was smuggled out of Italy and distributed on Palm Sunday to Catholics in Germany. Nothing like this happened in Protestant churches in Germany.
3) It is not true that Hitler met resistance from Protestants alone. There are 800,000 trees planted in Israel that represent the 800,000 Jews saved by the Catholic Church. None have been planted as a tribute to Protestants. During the war, the New York Times twice said the Church was a lonely voice crying out of the silence of a continent; Albert Einstein also singled out the Church during the war. After the war, Golda Meir praised the work of the Church, as did the ADL, the World Jewish Congress, and scores of other Jewish organizations.
4) It is factually wrong to say the Vatican archives have never been seen. Many scholars have had access. As for Pope Pius XII being Hitlers Pope, it should be noted that John Cornwell, the ex-seminarian who originated this term, retracted it years ago. So why does The 700 Club continue to cite it?
But what does HEADQUARTERS say the FOLLOWING is???
John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires?
Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
Thanks metmom for posting that, the Truth (Jesus) shines Light (Jesus) into the darkness.
That’s a pretty big mote.......
Good research, metmom! And, IIRC, that is your field besides being a mom & teacher. We should demand the bodies of those who transcribed Greek into Latin to be dug up and fired! However, we know it is 'not a person' who was behind it but an evil force to deceive that person(s).
But we know 'what' was behind their translation ... 'For our struggle is not w/flesh and blood (which is a person) but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.' Eph 6:12
And I'll add - that the same 'what' is 'what' is behind seducing people to think 'anti-person' is the correct term when it should be 'anti-man made teachings'. For we know people do not want to be deceived but our adversary, the devil does. It is that 'what' that causes the division in the body of Christ. And that 'what' is satan - the same dark evil force that deceived since the beginning.
We were all in his trap of deception because we were born into it/sin but then we heard how Jesus defeated IT ALL at the Cross - what Adam/Eve gave away to satan - JESUS reclaimed it back for us and washed our sin that separated us from God. So we either turn to knowing and believing what Jesus already DID at The Cross or continue in our darkness we were born into by our father of darkness.
Evil hides behind man to create/make manifest it's dastardly deeds as satan did since the beginning. "The thief came but to kill, to rob, and to destroy. And we see it played out in Kill/Cain, Rob/Innocence of Adam/Eve, Destroy/all the blessings/grace/favor God bestowed on them simply because God is Good. They couldn't earn it because they didn't even know what work was! They simply walked having fellowship with Him as it was God's original intent in creating man.
Satan is powerless and needs a body/man to submit to him - the evil spirit has no power on his own. We/man give satan power and it started with Adam/Eve handing over the power given to them by submitting/listening/obeying him and thus rejected what God told them.
One thing we have in our favor - we know the effects of NOT listening/obeying God by Adam/Eve's example of listening to 'another voice'. They were deceived by doubt... 'Did God really say..?' vs what God DID say.
The master deceiver Satan is/uses deception - to cause doubt. With JESUS we have certainty/assurance. Now, Jesus says 'Believe..'. What happens if we doubt instead?
'If you believe...I will...'(promises to new man based on His Word) vs. 'If we doubt...satan will..' (old man which is based on our old dark beliefs)
Something else we can think about. We are the same as the world He created as taught in Gen. There was dark first and, then, The Word spoke light into it. Same as us, we were dark first and, then, the inspired Word spoke into us. Something man is unable to do.
And while we are in this dark world - He equips us with light "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119.
WOW! Exactly, what I thought when reading it!
And they still can’t see it or know it’s there.
Grate minds love cheese! (obscure reference lol)
I had a friend tell me that exact thing not too long ago.
It just occurred to me when typing the post and thought I’d share it.
