In a segment titled God and Hitler, Gordon Robertson (son of Rev. Pat Robertson), hosted a discussion on the Catholic Churchs response to Hitler. Several errors of fact were made.
1) It is wrong to paint Hitler as a Catholic. Though he was baptized, he excommunicated himself, latae sententiae, when he sought, in his words, to crush [the Catholic Church] like a toad. He made good on his pledge by persecuting 8,000 priests, over 500 of whom were killed in concentration camps. He also sought to assassinate the pope.
2) The 1933 Nazi-Vatican Concordat was not a show of solidarity. As Rabbi David Dalin has shown, it was a protective measure designed to protect German Catholics from persecution. In fact, at least 34 letters of protest were sent from the Vatican to the Nazis between 1933 and 1937, culminating in a 1937 encyclical that condemned Nazi violations of the Concordat and its racial ideology. It was smuggled out of Italy and distributed on Palm Sunday to Catholics in Germany. Nothing like this happened in Protestant churches in Germany.
3) It is not true that Hitler met resistance from Protestants alone. There are 800,000 trees planted in Israel that represent the 800,000 Jews saved by the Catholic Church. None have been planted as a tribute to Protestants. During the war, the New York Times twice said the Church was a lonely voice crying out of the silence of a continent; Albert Einstein also singled out the Church during the war. After the war, Golda Meir praised the work of the Church, as did the ADL, the World Jewish Congress, and scores of other Jewish organizations.
4) It is factually wrong to say the Vatican archives have never been seen. Many scholars have had access. As for Pope Pius XII being Hitlers Pope, it should be noted that John Cornwell, the ex-seminarian who originated this term, retracted it years ago. So why does The 700 Club continue to cite it?
Ok...
Perhaps someone will wander in here at a later date and wonder why so LITTLE Scripture is being shown in a RELIGION themed thread...
Is Peter the 'rock'?
As you can see, Simon was already known as 'Peter'
BEFORE the following verses came along.....
NIV 1 Corinthians 10:4
and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. NIV Luke 6:48
He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. NIV Romans 9:33
As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." NIV 1 Peter 2:4-8
4. As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him-- 5. you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6. For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 7. Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone, " 8. and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for. But, since there WAS no NT at the time Christ spoke to Peter, just what DID Peter and the rest of the Disciples know about ROCKS??? NIV Genesis 49:24-25 24. But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, 25. because of your father's God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb. NIV Numbers 20:8
"Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink." NIV Deuteronomy 32:4
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. NIV Deuteronomy 32:15
Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned the God who made him and rejected the Rock his Savior. NIV Deuteronomy 32:18
You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. NIV Deuteronomy 32:30-31
30. How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up? 31. For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede. NIV 1 Samuel 2:2
"There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. NIV 2 Samuel 22:2-3
2. He said: "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; 3. my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior-- from violent men you save me. NIV 2 Samuel 22:32
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? NIV 2 Samuel 22:47
"The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God, the Rock, my Savior! NIV 2 Samuel 23:3-4
3. The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: `When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, 4. he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.' NIV Psalms 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. NIV Psalms 18:31
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? NIV Psalms 18:46
The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! NIV Psalms 19:14

NIV Psalms 31:2-3
2. Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. 3. Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. NIV Psalms 42:9
I say to God my Rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?" NIV Psalms 62:2
He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. NIV Psalms 62:6
He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. NIV Psalms 62:7

Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one." NIV Habakkuk 1:12 O LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, we will not die. O LORD, you have appointed them to execute judgment; O Rock, you have ordained them to punish. |
And now you know the Biblical position!
Matthew 16:13-18
13. When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14. They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15. "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
16. Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17. Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
18. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
And ROME came up with the Counter REFORMATION.
I wonder WHY?
The Council (of TRENT) upheld salvation appropriated by grace through faith and works of that faith ...
The Virgin Mary played an increasingly central role in Catholic devotions.
Can the Anti-Plankers be far behind?
But seriously...The false Catholic religion came out of the Gentile church...There certainly were no Catholics during Jesus' ministry on Earth...The church wasn't available to Gentiles during Jesus' ministry...You guys seem to forget, or never knew that there is a bible out there that tells us and you guys all of this stuff...
And again, no...Catholic so called scholars had nothing to do with what would be put into God's book...God decided that...
Catholics decided what would be put into the Catholic bible...
Sola scipture??? God's bible tells us that everything we need to know to aquire salvation is written in God's bible...So is that sola scripture??? Of course it is...
I forgot I had this until now...
Petra Peter rock
Matthew 16:18 - http://bible.cc/matthew/16-18.htm
Jesus said that Peter was *petros*(masculine) and that on this *petra*(feminine) He would build His church.
Greek: 4074 Pétros (a masculine noun) properly, a stone (pebble), such as a small rock found along a pathway. 4074 /Pétros (small stone) then stands in contrast to 4073 /pétra (cliff, boulder, Abbott-Smith).
4074 (Pétros) is an isolated rock and 4073 (pétra) is a cliff (TDNT, 3, 100). 4074 (Pétros) always means a stone . . . such as a man may throw, . . . versus 4073 (pétra), a projecting rock, cliff (S. Zodhiates, Dict).
4073 pétra (a feminine noun) a mass of connected rock, which is distinct from 4074 (Pétros) which is a detached stone or boulder (A-S). 4073 (pétra) is a solid or native rock, rising up through the earth (Souter) a huge mass of rock (a boulder), such as a projecting cliff.
4073 (petra) is a projecting rock, cliff (feminine noun) . . . 4074 (petros, the masculine form) however is a stone . . . such as a man might throw (S. Zodhiates, Dict).
Its also a strange way to word the sentence that He would call Peter a rock and say that on this I will build my church instead of *on you* as would be grammatically correct in talking to a person.
There is no support from the original Greek for the idea that Jesus meant Peter to be that which He was going to build His church on. The nouns are not the same as one is feminine and the other masculine and denote different objects.
http://biblesuite.com/greek/1577.htm
1577 ekklēsía(from 1537 /ek, "out from and to" and 2564 /kaléō, "to call") properly, people called out from the world and to God, the outcome being the Church (the mystical body of Christ) i.e. the universal (total) body of believers whom God calls out from the world and into His eternal kingdom.
[The English word "church" comes from the Greek word kyriakos, "belonging to the Lord" (kyrios). 1577 /ekklēsía ("church") is the root of the terms "ecclesiology" and "ecclesiastical."]
Word Origin: from ek and kaleó
Definition: an assembly, a (religious) congregation
You are correct in that most of their symbols, rituals, holidays, and beliefs came long before the Gospels. Many of the symbols originated with the worship of Baal. The Philistine priests of the fish god dagon influenced some of the practices of which the fish mouth shaped hat the pope wears is one. The queen of heaven concept goes all the way back to Nimrod and Semiramis. So you are correct in that most of the beliefs, rituals, symbols, and holy days originate long before the Gospels were written.
>>Catholic scholars decided what would be put in the Bible and compiled the Bible. That is the little sticker that PROTESTants cant seem to come to grips with.<<
God has always turned evil to good for those who serve Him. Using evil people even today is evident. I suppose you would also say we should venerate Judas because without his betrayal we would not have the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our salvation?
>>And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it. ~Matt.16:18-19<<
In Matthew 16 Jesus is talking to all of the Apostles. They were all asked the question of who they thought He was. Though Peter was the one who answered for the group Jesus was talking to them all. When Peter said that they believed He was Christ the Son of the Living God Jesus replied and said that it was not flesh and blood that had revealed that to Peter but that it was my Father which is in heaven. He then says to Peter and thou art Peter, acknowledging that He knew who Peter was just as Peter knew who Jesus was. Then Jesus, referring back to my Father which is in heaven, says, upon this rock I will build my church.
In other places in scripture Jesus is referred to as the corner stone, but the rock that the church is build on is the Father.
If you want reference to God as the Rock here are some verses.
Deut. 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
2 Sam. 22:2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
Psalm 18:31, "And who is a rock, except our God."
Isaiah 44:8, "Is there any God besides Me, or is there any other Rock? I know of none."
Scripture is rather clear on who the Rock is. Catholics take one verse and try to usurp Gods place. Follow that pagan system at your own peril.
While the word church normally means a building, some of the earliest Christians did meet in a building...
Act 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
However, Jesus said He was the Temple...Jesus knew the church wasn't a physical building but a spiritual building...As we know, our church is spiritual, it's not physical...
It may be wrong to call our spiritual church a spiritual building but what I find interesting is that a bit of bible study is required to figure out that the word church references something spiritual and not a physical building...Yet, at the same time, we go to a physical building when we go to church...
Catholics and others don't spend much time in the scriptures so to them, a church is a physical building only...
For me I’ll follow Jesus and not some drunkard German monk,
who by the way always said the Christian Church was in Rome and who by the way always believed in the REAL PRESENCE during Eucharist. And who, by the way NEVER MEANT for more Christian faiths to be started, only reforms to be made in the REAL CHURCH, which is the Catholic Church. Finally, when you have been exposed to the truth of the Christian faith, and you still deny it and snub your nose at God’s Pilgrim CHurch on earth, you will surely have to answer to the Lord when your time on earth is over. God bless everyone, but especially God bless the heretics, who are still after 2,000 years too blind to see the truth. Forgive them father for they know not what they do.
So making disparaging and false statements about former Catholics and nondenominational women would be perfectly OK? Somehow that doesn't seem right either.
Peace be upon us all
Salvation isn’t through the church, it’s through Jesus and Him alone and by grace through faith.
The very Bible that the Catholic church claims it wrote even says so.
“There certainly were no Catholics during Jesus’ ministry on Earth”
Before the protestant reformation the only Christians were Catholic, either Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox. There were no Jimmy Swaggart pentacostals around back them. Think until your head explodes but that is fact. Jesus started one Church, not some 35,000 with no authority or structure whatsover. The difference in the Catholic Church and all other faiths is Jesus started the Catholic Church, all others were started by mortal men. Only one Church is divinely inspired and that is the Catholic Church. And I would have never started this thread if I had known it would going to turn into just another Catholic bashing. Ever wondered why protestants do majority of the bashing against Catholics? I don’t think I have to expain it. Think about it.
Don't you mean whatever the magisterium tells you about Him?
#264 QUOTES the Council of Trent!
Pope Stephen VI (896897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]
Pope John XII (955964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.
Pope Benedict IX (10321044, 1045, 10471048), who "sold" the Papacy
Pope Boniface VIII (12941303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy
Pope Urban VI (13781389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]
Pope Alexander VI (14921503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]
Pope Leo X (15131521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]
Pope Clement VII (15231534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.
Yeah...
Sure...
Ever wondered why protestants do majority of the bashing against Catholics?
Uh...
Because PROTESTANTS actually KNOW what the bible says?
Who would have thought that telling the truth of Scripture was *Catholic bashing*?
