Catholic students at George Washington University are rallying to the support of their beloved priest after two gay seniors launched a campaign to kick him out of his post at the universitys Newman Center for preaching that homosexuality and abortion are sinful.
The GW Hatchet, a campus newspaper, reported this week that seniors Damian Legacy and Blake Bergen are spearheading the campaign. The story has since been picked up by numerous other news outlets.
Fr. Greg Shaffer
The students say that they will file a formal complaint with the university, release a video featuring ten other students who share their opinion, and hold prayer vigils until the priest is removed from his post. They are also demanding that the universitys Student Association defund the Newman Center, which receives $10,000 a year.
In their letter of complaint the pair will reportedly cite studies showing how being around homophobic behavior can lead to loss of appetite and problems sleeping.
The students complain that Fr. Greg Shaffer has spoken out against gay marriage and abortion, and has counseled homosexual Catholic students to embrace celibacy. They said they were disturbed when Fr. Shaffer quoted the Book of Romans and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Why are they at a Catholic University? The priests are just affirming what the bible says.
Good grief. Let’s kick out christians for following their faith faithfully.
Sexual Deviants Gone Wild!
Only liberal idiots do this kind of stuff and expect their demands be met.
What conservative joins PETA. starts eating a meat sandwich there, and then wants to kick people out of PETA because they’re vegetarians?
What conservative joins a liberal group and then demands the liberal group kick out liberals because they teach beliefs that are liberal?
What kind of media coverage would that get? Sympathetic, like this puff piece, or a scathing attack by the media?
Man, do I love me some tolerant gay folks. You gotta accept EVERYTHING they say or do but they ain’t listenin’ to squat you gotta say. More diversity training for someone required. And it ain’t me.
....” being around homophobic behavior can lead to loss of appetite and problems sleeping.”....
Among one of the behaviors among many young gays is the desire for attention....I’d love evidence that homosexual practices stunts ones growth!
But for these two...perhaps they’re having restless nights and loss of appetite, might evidence what they’re doing to each other is the cause....guilt has a way of bringing with it troublesome sleep.
I believe the scientific term is “Drama Queen”
GWU isn’t Catholic.
These gay students need to be told that their ignorant comments are bigoted and hateful of all Catholics. Until they understand Catholic teaching on sin, their ignorant comments will be disregarded.
hmmm, thanks, i thought it was.
If a CATHOLIC university would kick out a Priest for speaking the TRUTH, NO ONE is SAFE....NO ONE.....Good BYE AMerica.
Prayer vigils to who? Satan?
GWU is not a Catholic school.
This is a case of intolerance masquerading as tolerance. It’s the theme of lots of people, conservatives and liberals alike.
It wasn't talking about Trinity DC.
They kicked their Catholic chaplain out a long time ago.
The communists are certainly working hard on their 45 Goals. Especially number 26 lately.
Looked it up. The North American Old Catholic Church, founded in 2007 in Louisville, KY, says it "has developed its own Old Catholic history and culture," its faith tradition being described as "rooted in the early days of Jesus".
[Fabulous! In existence for six years, they have already "developed their own history"! Going "back to the early days of Jesus!"]
In addition to not recognizing the pope, the North American Old Catholic Church "provides that priest celibacy is optional, married men may be ordained as priest, and divorced Catholics may remarry within the Old Catholic Church without getting an annulment. It also "ordains bisexual people, divorced people, gay, lesbian, married people, transgender people, and women."
"Together, the church collective supports social justice concerns such as women's rights, gay rights, and "being good stewards of the environment."
They ought to invite Garry Wills to be their next Fabulous Ordinary, since he, like they, just managed to discover the genius of Protestantism a mere 500 years later than everybody else did. True Ancient and Primitive Successors to the Spin-Offs of the Apostles, going back to when Peter, John and Mary Magdalen used to sit around the house-church and read to each other from the Book of Neuteronomy (KJV only).
Dang. I just LOVE bit about "developing their own history." I'm joining! I want to be 19 again, and the Cardinal-Queen of Romania.
