Baby-killing advocates Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi have told the press that they received communion at the papal mass. And I've seen loads of pictures of both at the papal mass. Seeing how the big news story their presence spurs is whether they'd receive communion, is there any evidence that they did? It's not like both have not directly lied about their relationships with the Catholic faith.
Please understand that I am not making an assertion that they did NOT. I am only trying to find confirmation that they DID.
There is. It is in the ritual. It is a dire warning that to partake of communion without first begging forgiveness of one's sins is itself sin. "It is to be entered into reverently, discreetly and in the presence of God." An unclean spirit is an abomination before God. He will not tolerate it.
It is not his role to turn anyone away from the communion table. It is the responsibility of the penitent to accept the body of Christ with a clear conscience.

Not true.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_915
The priest does not know each person who comes for communion. It remains the primary duty of the penitent to insure his or her preparedness to receive the sacrament.
The Canon you list specifically describes those who are in a state of excommunication or interdiction. Neither of these are true of Pelosi or Biden.
The man second to the most powerful man on earth, the Vice-President of the United States on a diplomatic mission to the Vatican, does not get lost in the crowd, and accidently given the most important symbolic act that the Christian world was waiting to see if it would be granted to the most prominent Catholic in America.
I think biden and pelosi are a lot more important to you than they are to either the Pope of the priest who was distributing Communion in their area.
You were not talking about Biden or Pelosi in your post when you said.... “It is not his role to turn anyone away from the communion table.”
Clearly Canon 915 gives the priest the duty to turn SOME away from the communion table. Maybe not Biden or Pelosi. But again - to say what you said in post 60 - is not true.
Good point!
Apparently, either he DID get lost in the crowd, so that none of the hundreds of sycophantic press photographers saw him receive, or he lied about having received.
That said, when Pope Benedict XVI last came to America, Biden did receive, but he did so from one of dozens of assisting priests. (The papal inauguration had 500 assisting priests!) The illicit reception of the eucharist prompted the Vatican to admonish those in grave sin to refrain.
“The man second to the most powerful man on earth, the Vice-President of the United States on a diplomatic mission to the Vatican, does not get lost in the crowd, and accidently given the most important symbolic act that the Christian world was waiting to see if it would be granted to the most prominent Catholic in America.”
The responsibility (and the blame) lies with his bishop.
I don’t understand how someone can think that the Vatican is such a hicksville that they don’t know when the vice president of the United States is attending.
On another thread the story was that the Pope being from Argentina probably doesn’t’ know who Biden and Pelosi are.
The Pope isn’t the Beverly Hillbillies, surely.
This concept of the invisibility of the Catholic Vice President of the United States, the most prominent Catholic in America when dealing with formal, symbolic Catholic ceremonies when dealing with the Pope, is a little hard to believe.
The idea of a Pope saying “No kidding, the Vice President of the United States attended? Someone should have told me, I would have assigned one of the servants to keep track of him, maybe ask him if he wanted a chair, or something to drink.
I didn’t say the Pope couldn’t pick slow Joe out of a lineup. I’m saying that nobody cares.
Not relevant as their support for intrinsic evils is public. Therefore a public recant or apologize would be necessary. I would imagine that absolution would be contingent on public statements/apologies for their errors.
What part of, “. . . are not to be admitted to holy communion” is all that hard to understand?
You are correct. I was making a blanket statement which remains true in spite of your protestations. The priest cannot know every participant in the mass who comes forward for the elements. Canon Law relies on the individual’s fealty to its authority. This is precisely why Pelosi, Biden and others are able to flaunt Canon Law with impunity. They do not respect its authority over their worldly lives.
Exactly why I posted this. Why were there no photos if he received?
On the other hand, there were FIVE HUNDRED priests distributing communion, almost none from the United States, in dense clusters. Biden could EASILY have been refused by several priests, and drifted in the throng until he found one who didn't know him. And if you think any Italian MUST recognize who Joe Biden is, I have news for you: Half of Americans can't name the Vice President, let alone tell you what he looks like.
What the distribution of communion looked like:
Oops 41%. 41% of Americans can’t identify the Vice President. And I’m sure all these people presuming that every one of the 500 priests helping distribute communion could identify Vice President Biden can themselves easily identify the Italian President.
And if you guessed Monti or Berlusconi, you are wrong.
Andif you’re guessing that it’s a trick question because there is no Italian president, you’re also wrong. He’s been President since 2006, and is the chief executive and head of state of the Italian Republic.
The vice president of the United States just walks around by himself, just another tourist, the people receiving him on official visits don’t even know who he is and have no way to differentiate him from the other guy?
This stuff is getting bizarre, on some threads we learn that the Pope wouldn’t even recognize the name or know that he is Catholic because being from Argentina, he is not very hip to things like who leads the United States and such.
This is nonsense. The Vice-President did not grab a plane ticket and jet off to Rome on his own, wearing a mustache so as to not be recognized as the most prominent Catholic in the most powerful nation on the planet, and as being on an official diplomatic mission representing the President of the United States and the US.
