**Even by the standards of recorded history, the last century has been a time of disruption on a grand and awful scale. The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel was commended to the Church by Pope Leo XIII in anticipation of this period, and recommended by Pope John Paul II who had lived through much of it.**
And then this prayer seemed to disappear after Vatican II. It is coming back into vogue. In fact, at my church, we say the prayers at the foot of the altar after low Mass, which include the Prayer of St. Michael.
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen
