"I feel sorry for the church next door, waiting for their three people to trickle in," says Nick Julius, glancing at the small adjacent hall that will shortly be hosting its own gathering.
There are still 40 minutes before the Sunday Assembly, an atheist service run by two standup comedians, is due to begin, but a queue of eager congregants is already forming outside a grand but crumbling former church in Islington, north London, hands shoved deep into pockets against the cold.
Julius arrived an hour early, just to be sure of a place at the service, which is described by its organisers as "a godless congregation that meets to hear great talks, sing songs and generally celebrate life". But why? "I came last time and really enjoyed it. It's got all the good things about church without the terrible dogma. I like the sense of community and who doesn't enjoy a singsong?"
This is only the second time Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans have hosted the monthly event (motto: live better, help often, wonder more), and they admit to being a little overwhelmed by the enthusiasm with which the event has already been greeted.
More than 200 people came to the first event; today there are perhaps 300, with several dozen more carrying on a parallel discussion in a local pub. Inside the nave of the deconsecrated church, volunteers have been bunching chairs closer together, adding extra benches and children's seats in every scrap of space. It is not a problem most vicars struggle with on a Sunday morning.

You must be familiar with the works of Missler.....
You need to get out more, especially on Sunday mornings.....there is no need to suffer in a church full of non-believers.
Atheists have zero value for life. Pol Pot, Stalin, and Mao proved that. If you do not believe in the soul, a gift from God, you believe human life is equal to all life, animals, plants, insects. Killing a person becomes as insignificant as stepping on a beetle.
LOL!!!!!
I have never heard of him. Just wikipedia'd the name a moment ago.
You might misunderstand me. I go to Catholic Church on Sundays (most Sundays) and my faith is strong. In my faith, I have reconciled most of my faith with science. I like science. I value my faith. I have found where God fills in the answers that science cannot. And I get a kick out of science shows about the Universe that are always littered with the "unkowns" but "being studied" aspects. I think Hawking has comes as close to anyone has to proving the existence of God, despite his aggressive efforts otherwise.
Dark Matter anyone?
War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Man -o- man... I thought the LEAST LIKELY of Orwells new-speak would never be actually happening before our eyes.
Chuck Missler, brilliant at demonstrating how science proves the Bible, once it catches up. You’ll love his work on quantum physics, Revelation, etc.
Interesting. Like most people, I like an evidence-based discussion from time to time. So.
1. Name one bishop who endorsed Obama. Link.
Due to a certain ambiguity in the English language, I don't know whether your use of the word "fraud" meant a fraudulent person or a fraudulent program. My own opinion is that Obamacare --- the deceptively-named Patient Protection and Affordale Care Act of 2009 ---was the biggest fraud in the history of America. If this is how you see it, too, then my second question would be:
2. Name one bishop who endorsed the PPACA, a.k.a. Obamacare. Link.
I was going to ask a third question, but actually, for just now I think I'd be content with those two. Thank you.
Now you've really got me intrigued. On May 21, 2012, he Catholic Bishops launched the largest coordinated lawsuit strategy in the history of the United States --- filing for 43 plaintiffs in twelve federal courts across the country--- to challenge key provisions of Obamacare.
On October 12, 2012, the USCCB issued a statement to the press called Vice President Joseph Biden a liar when, in a debate in the run-up to the 2012 election, he said that Obamacare and the HHS woulds not curtail liberty for any health care practitioner, usurer or employer.
And to this day I am unaware of any Catholic clergyman at any level --- let alone "leader" -- who has stated that they believe Obama's latest (2013) lies about abortion and birth control. He offered them a lying "compromise." Every one of them refused it.
So I have to ask: can you name one Catholic Bishop, who, as you say, "fell" for his lies? Link.
As an activist, I need this information.
Thank you.
Finally they admit they are a religion. One of many. They must stop dictating their religion to the country.
Just because you don’t believe in religion; that doesn’t make you an idiot. Just a difference of opinion
> Complete and utter drivel.
I have shared this with atheists.
Most agreed with all of it.
I only clearly remember only one atheist who disagreed, and he disagreed only with the last point.
Perhaps you would like to share with us your perspectives on the following aspects of sentient existence.
* Origins
* Meaning
* Morality
* Destiny
