One of MTVs most popular shows is coming to an end. According to reports, The Jersey Shore will cease production at the conclusion of this years season. The Shore, as it is commonly referred to, follows the lives of alcoholic, spiritually-adrift twentysomethings as they party it up during their summer vacation on New Jerseys east coast.
Now that The Shore is coming to an end, television executives are trying to put together the next big ratings-getter. And Ryan Murphy (creator of Glee) thinks hes got just the answer.
Murphys show, The New Normal which premiered September 10th on NBC focuses on two men, Bryan and David, who are engaged in a committed, gay partnership. While the couple is out shopping, David sees an oh-so-precious toddler in a stroller and later tells Bryan that It was the cutest thing Ive ever seen. I must have it! He agrees and the premise of the show is set: two gay guys want to start a family, but they cant have a child the traditional way, so they turn to surrogacy.
Its fans praise it for its in-your-face attitude, but The New Normal comes off as a cheesy infomercial filled with stereotypes meant to convince on-the-fence Americans that gay marriage really isnt all that bad, and that those on the political right are just a bunch of racists.
To expose cultural conservatives for what they truly are, the show’s producers created a character named Nana, the Midwestern grandmother of the woman Bryan and David pay $35,000 to be their surrogate. Nana is everything Hollywood liberals think conservatives are: bigoted, mean-spirited, and xenophobic. In one scene, Nana played by raging leftist Ellen Barken says she loves gay people because she could never get her hair to look good without them. In another, she informs her granddaughter that she feels like she just ate a black and gay stew” right before she fell asleep because it feels like she is living in a nightmare.
Right. And opponents of gay marriage want all gay people deported.
Hollywoods incessant mocking of social conservatives is meant to pressure them into supporting liberal causes. But if the shows ratings are any indication, most Americans reject the upside down reality that The New Normal presents.
The reality is that two men cannot start a family in any sense of the word. They have to go behind natures back if they want to. But even then, as we are seeing in California right now, situations involving surrogate parents and same-sex couples are increasingly legally complex, and may ultimately lead to three-parent situations.
Moreover, even though Bryan and David may seem like an open-minded, caring couple, when they are told they can create the perfect embryo for their child, Bryan odiously demands a skinny blonde child who doesnt cry. Eugenics anyone?
Inasmuch as The New Normal may be the norm for left-wing, one-percenters living in Manhattan or in that foreign country we refer to as the state of California, it isnt normal for the overwhelming majority of Americans, and it wont be anytime soon.
Americans realize that Hollywoods deep hatred for traditional values is no laughing matter. I predict that they, like the NBC affiliate in Utah that chose not to air the show, will reject what media elites see as morally permissible. Expect The New Normal to last no more than one season.
Will not even last 1 season. Same reason Leftist talk radio always fails. NO one wants to tune in for a weekly Leftist bigoted, hysteric political screed.
I hear/read this all the time; but, considering that the percentage of the population that is "gay" is under 3%, I don't think this can be true. I know, I don't have a "gay couple" in my family.
Ah, no...in my 64 years I’ve known one queer.. a cousin who contracted AIDS in the USN and died a number of years ago...other than that I know of now other queers in my family...both sides and extended.
Have not thrown out my one 15” flat screen...but my wife has caught me a time or two about to throw my shoe through the infernal device...
“I heard one of the guys interviewed and he pretty much said they intend it as indoctrination for us benighted straights who don’t get the gay “family” thing.”
“Friends” beat them to it over a decade ago (none of the children, including those added as the show “jumped the shark”, lived with both of their biological parents).
These shows have about as much impact as the “Cosby Show” (none); networks have to go to increasingly desperate lengths to stop people from turning to a PC instead of the TV for entertainment...
“I choose to fight not against the breakdown of the family nor sexual norms but the language.”
We should never let the words “deviant”, “sodomite”, “pedophile” etc. disappear; I use them in discussions about “gay marriage”, and you really see people reflect on it.
You’re right. The Big Bang, Modern Family, it’s all trash.
No wonder so many of our young people are shacking up, delaying marriage, and abandoning church. While growing up, the kids watched garbage while their parents were off pursuing their adult dreams.
You must have a very odd family. No homosexual couples in my family.
I think the best way to confront this is by parody. Create a video for the Internet entitled “The New Abnormal”, showing two (very made up to conceal their identities) actors who portray a flamboyant and a leather homosexual who supposedly live on Castro Street in San Francisco.
They adopt babies out of spite to the “breeders”, then utterly neglect and abuse them (dolls, thankfully) until they “die”. And then they adopt another one to meet the same fate. They know nothing about child rearing and care less, even now and then killing one of the babies because they cried when one of the homosexuals was in a bad mood or hungover.
The third character is a bureaucrat at the state child protective services, also homosexual, who describes in great detail to the distraught women giving up their babies for adoption, how their child will go to a loving heterosexual couple. Lying, of course, before tossing another baby to the homosexual men to kill.
In any event, the homosexuals would probably react more violently than the Muslims have done to the most recent Mohammed video.
Once you know it's a sewer pipe, it all makes sense....
>>It will be canceled within 1 month.<<
No it won’t. Glee wasn’t, even when the ratings tanked after the first half season.
It’s propaganda and will win every Emmy that comes around. It will not go away any time soon and will be lauded as a huge hit.
This is why we cut our cable and watch our Roku. The only things that come through the antenna that we watch is Createtv , the news and Judge Judy.
Bingo. You understand the situation perfectly. The entertainment business is not a business. The news business is not a business. They are not driven by profits, for they have other things in mind.
You could be right, but the people who make the shows aren't necessarily the same people who put them on the air.
Exactly.
Every defiancy is now acceptable as long as you laugh at it, people will say,'it is only a comedy'.
They do that with the cartoons, like the Simpsons.
...most of us have a gay couple in family....

NO, most of us do not.
it is not enough for it to be cancelled.
it must become so toxic no advertiser will touch it.
it must become so toxic as to end the careers of all performers involved.

Never gonna happen.
Two words: Charlie Sheen.
but dont be surprised if they prop this show up a long time because of a desire to normalize and propagandize the lifestyle.

Who is the ‘they’ you refer to?
The advertisers and their shareholders don’t give a flying rat’s patoot about normalizing the lifestyle. They are interested in the return.
They’ll say it was worth a shot and what’s next as they withdraw their support because it is not bringing the return they wanted.
sheen was a known quantity, these are nobodys.
“Who is the ‘they’ you refer to?”
NBC. I think they would take a loss on a show to plug the lifestyle. I don’t think they would be beyond discounting ad rates or even bullying advertisers, saying if you want to be on our most succcessful shows like football or talent contests, you have to be on here. I admit I don’t know the particulars of what they would do, but NBC’s liberalism is virulent.
