Episcopalians used to be one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, and were a huge influence in America when this country was founded (almost all the founding fathers had ties to the Church of England) Now, they’re a shadow of their former selves and less than 2% of the population. So much for churches drawing more followers by being “less strict” and embracing socially liberal ideas.
The Episcopal Church was once jocularly referred to as "the Republican party at prayer."
