My husband and I bought a condo in 1990. Before proceeding with the purchase we carefully read the HOA rules and regulations. Two of the regulations were:

1) It is not permitted to wash clothing in the Jacuzzi.

2) Swimming naked is not permitted and will result in a **HUGE** fine. ( I forget the amount.)

My husband laughed as said, “Each of these rules exists because someone did this!” :-)

Well.....I am certainly glad not to be supervising a bunch of 19 to 21 year old young men and women in a foreign country. Each of the items in the long list in your post is probably there for their safety and well-being.

Not all LDS missionaries go to a foreign country and the MP (Mission Pres) verily rarely sees the boys in he field or goes to their apt. The minions must go to the king.

And, yes, some of them are for their safety, but a good chunk of the purpose is control. LDS missions are a time when the LDS church makes one last attempt at brainwashing. Been there, done that.

It is interesting to note that one of two things happen after an LDS mission generally (particularly with the men). Either the “Returned Missionary” leaves the LDS (or goes ‘inactive’ which means no longer attends the LDS church), or they become a ‘Norman Mormon’ - a good faithful, brainwashed Mormon.

My husbands good friend in High School was LDS and always laughing and making jokes, real lively. My husband ran into him after his mission and was shocked at how he changed. He was somber, serious, and my husband said his eyes were souless. He came home and cried and said “they just sucked the life out of him!” and that is a pretty good description.

However, not everyone has those kinds of Missions. Freeper Utah Binger, broke several rules on his mission and left right after.

Oh!

No doubt about this at ALL!

Now then: is MORMONism similar to a Nanny State?
