[LDS] Group calls on Santorum to disavow pastor over Mormon comments

SALT LAKE CITY -- An LDS-oriented group is calling on GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum to disavow a pastor who made anti-Mormon comments earlier this week.

In a news release, MormonVoices, which is associated with the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research, called for Santorum to "condemn the anti-Mormon comments made by his supporter, an honorary Florida chairman, the Rev. O'Neal Dozier" of the Worldwide Christian Center.

On Monday Dozier said "the Mormon religion is prejudiced against blacks, Jews and native Americans." He called Mormonism a "racist" religion and called on Romney to renounce it.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints did not issue a response to Dozier but earlier has said "people of all races have always been welcomed and baptized into the church since its beginning" and "the church unequivocally condemns racism, including any and all past racism by individuals both inside and outside the church."

Scott Gordon, managing director of MormonVoices, not associated with the church, said, "Dozier's comments represent a form of religious bigotry that should not be tolerated by any serious candidate for the Presidency of the United States. His comments are either ignorant or are willful misrepresentations for personal or political purposes."

You are assuming that LDS people whole-heartedly are going for Romney - because he is LDS. This is a false assumption, like saying that Baptists, or Catholics are sheep, blindly following a candidate simply because he goes to the same church they go to.

- - - - -
Read KSL.com and the Deseret News pages. Most LDS ARE supporting Romney and many agree it is because of his being LDS. This is also shown in exit polls.

You appear to be an anomaly.

Santorum himself (not a supporter or worker) made a negative comment about ‘mainline protestants’ the other day, I’ll still vote for him. In short, he didn’t alienate me.

If Mormons can’t see beyond this then they are stupid.

So what? What business is it of yours? Are you a Baptist?

Read it again and pay attention this time. I was playing the original poster's game of speaking as I would if I were Santorum. Santorum's religion does indeed recognize mormonism as a cult.

Mormon Voices is fairly well respected in Mormon circles and would probably influence others to agree with them.

IOW, it is designed to get votes away from Santorum and to Romney by any LDS who do not already support him.

Or better yet read the post from NKP_Vet at number 31. He understood what I was saying.

Every time you think nothing in Mormonism will shock you anymore, something does.

It is a neverending cesspool. Thank God, He got me out before I REALLY did something stupid (like get married in the Temple).

Cult is also a word of many meanings.

I am an analytic sort and hot buttons mean little in the analytical world.

A cult might mean a simple deviation from the main stream of a religion.

But I use the word "cult" as the definition of a group of humans who are psychologically coerced into membership...brainwashed as to certain aspects of reality and "the truth"...and then prevented from leaving by coercion.

This is not the Merriam Webster definition but the behavioral/psychological/psychiatric definition. This is the kind of cult Mormonism is.

You of all people know that...or, at least, you will eventually. It is demonic in nature...not human at all. Humans are its victims.

>There are approximately 6.1 Mormons in the USA....<

There are at least that many in foreign countries too. Wat do you think those clean cut young men on bicycles do on their mandatory mission trips? abroad?

If Romney get in, you can bet the one New World Religion will be Mormon. Read “Battle Hymn...the sinister New World Order”....a real eye opener!

You are correct! That is Romney's goal. He himself is a victim...but he is also a willing worker and a carrier.

He reports to and MUST obey the cult!

Harry Reid is not a conservative, either, but they always vote overwhelmingly for him.

I used to think Mormons were good political conservatives, too. But it seems that that isn’t necessarily true.

It sure is true! I know this first hand. There was open racism with Mormons and non-mormons when I grew up. I used to laugh it off and think the mormon kids were all brats. We would have Mormons (white folk) versus the Catholics (mostly Mexicans and anyone who was Christian) games(softball, kickball, etc.). I guess it was better than what my Dad had to put up with - which was total segregation from them. In our local historical museum they now call it white and non-white segregation but we knew it was mormon and non-mormon segregation.

Mormons are nice people...but they are victims of a cult.

Romney is both victim and leader!

He must be stopped.

Seventh Day Adventist, maybe? IIRC part of their baptism is the requirement or statement you accept Ellen G. White as a prophet.

They have allowed duplicate posts on other occasions. No big deal and could you provide a link, because I didn’t see the other thread.

What does being a Baptist have to do with anything (I’m not Baptist btw)??!

The truth is the truth, Santorum’s Catholic faith, and other Christian churches recognize that Mormonism is a cult.

How about some commentary rather thank just links to Mormon excuses??

Do you EVER speak for yourself? Or do you let your church do your thinking for you?

I have posted before on the anthropological, sociological, and theological definitions of a cult and Mormonism fits all 3.

Short version...

Anthropological - its a religion
Sociological - its a ‘high demand group’
Theological - its doctrines are outside traditional Christian theology.

Your definition is close to the sociological one and very accurate. And, yes, I know that already. I learned the hard way.
