SALT LAKE CITY -- An LDS-oriented group is calling on GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum to disavow a pastor who made anti-Mormon comments earlier this week.
In a news release, MormonVoices, which is associated with the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research, called for Santorum to "condemn the anti-Mormon comments made by his supporter, an honorary Florida chairman, the Rev. O'Neal Dozier" of the Worldwide Christian Center.
On Monday Dozier said "the Mormon religion is prejudiced against blacks, Jews and native Americans." He called Mormonism a "racist" religion and called on Romney to renounce it.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints did not issue a response to Dozier but earlier has said "people of all races have always been welcomed and baptized into the church since its beginning" and "the church unequivocally condemns racism, including any and all past racism by individuals both inside and outside the church."
Scott Gordon, managing director of MormonVoices, not associated with the church, said, "Dozier's comments represent a form of religious bigotry that should not be tolerated by any serious candidate for the Presidency of the United States. His comments are either ignorant or are willful misrepresentations for personal or political purposes."
We have to ask has anyone checked to see if this noisy little group actually represents a widely held opinion or are they simply an appendage of the Harry Reid crowd? The importance ascribed to them by the media may not have any weight other than the media likes them because they appear to tarnish Santorum.
I am loathe to accept that every offended toad croaks for the majority.
Just when you think those two can't be any lower...
For those that wish to hum loudly about what is and what is not mormon... do not go the exmormon.org for those that might want a perspective other than the standard...feel free.
Did we read the same article? No candidate attacked Bishop Romney's religion. Pull the "victim card" much?
Really? How far would you go? Where's the line? Refraining from exercising your freedom of speech and religion? "Softening" your stance? Pandering? Lying?
Ok, I understand you are trying to spin this but I can tell you my lds family is voting for Romney BECAUSE he is lds, they know about his liberal record and do not care.
In their minds he is the fulfillment of a prophesy.
Romney has been groomed for this moment since he was born, by his dad and SLC lds corporation.
Romney is mormonism.
If you are not voting for him then you are part of a very small group of lds adults.
Santorum did not attack mormonism some guy who happens to like Santorum did.
Agreed. Is this news because it's a Utah news-site?
F.A.I.R. is a mormon apologist “group” that defines any disagreement with mormon doctrine or theology as “hate”.
The cat is already out of the bag. The horse is already out of the barn.

Santorum said: "We look at the shape of mainline Protestantism in this country and it is in shambles. It is gone from the world of Christianity as I see it."

If he's comfortable talking about Protestantism, why shouldn't he be just as upfront about Mormonism?
I agree, however I do understand him using religion rather than ‘cult’. Cult is a hot button word.
“On Monday Dozier said “the Mormon religion is prejudiced against blacks, Jews and native Americans.” He called Mormonism a “racist” religion and called on Romney to renounce it”.
The preacher is absolutely right. The Catholic Church said the Morman “Church” was a cult many years ago. Only Mormans and Jehovah Witnesses, and one more cult I can’t think of right now, baptisms are not recognized by the Catholic Church. The reason? They don’t believe in the Trinity. They think some shyster named Joe Smith sits at the right hand of God and Jesus and Satan are brothers. And if you a good little Morman and donate alot of money to the Church you get your own planet when you die. I think it’s called Kolob.
This is a duplicate post and should be removed by the moderators. The same article was posted yesterday.
We want them to come to Christ and leave Mormonism.
Also, I would say about half, not the vast majority are conservatives, based upon those I know and have known over my life.
Also, the vast majority (based on exit polling) are voting for Mitt, how conservative is that??
They should go to that demonimation or dont they know the difference between them or figure liberals are too stupid to know the difference.

I vote for the middle one.
Looking for some commentary.
Bravo! Very well said!
Cunningham lost me as a listener when I heard him say this! We need to vet our talk show hosts more carefully!
So what? What business is it of yours? Are you a Baptist?
