1 Timothy 2:5 ...one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
If there is a debate here then it must follow Bible Scriptures to advocate reproofs, corrections, and instructions on how God the Father has ordained and appointed someone other than HIS SON Christ Jesus as that mediator. In light of 1 Timothy 2:5 - there is no debate here since God's Word clearly points out that that mediator is is Christ Jesus, who has been appointed 2,000 years ago between God and men.
I say that the Church is more like a hospital. People keep getting sick and in need of medicine. Of course there are those who complain that doctors are just out there for the money they can get from you.
That's the inclination of the old nature, not the new.
But it also indicates a misunderstanding of salvation and all that it entails.
When one is saved, the Holy Spirit resides in that person and the person now has a new nature, one which does not want to return to the sin the old nature wishes to indulge in.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
If someone doesn't evidence a real desire to live for God and not return to his past life, it's a clear indicator that that person was not really saved.
...but no one ever gets “well” in your Church “hospital” of salvation. The best they can hope for is to be transfered to a purgatory waiting room for more tests to be done. At some point, someone has to ask themselves, “Am I really being treated here? Or is there another salvation hospital that actually HEALS the patient?
Well, the tug is strong, as even Paul says, he knows what he ought to do but he does not do as he wants. If we must use your test, then no wonder that Calvin thought so little of mankind, and thought of the saints as so few in number.
No one? We have hordes of saints and even an All-Saints Day for all those saints unknown to the Church at large.

So who declared them “well”? Your Church?
Why do you think that the Pope pushed for a catechism? But I was referring to those Catholics who remember pre-Vatican II days. The progressives threw out the old Baltimore catechism. Those Catholics who internalized it had a deeper understanding of the Faith than many theologians do today. Aldous Huxley —an infidel— tells a story set in the 1930s of the English visitor who strikes up a friendship with a young fisherman, a boy of 12 or so. at one point they strike up a conservation about religion, and this brother of Julian Huxley and novelist (Brave New World) is amused to discover this fisher boy, who knows nothing more than the Catechism, is able to hold his own in the conversation. Our progressives, impatient with memorization and with contempt for authority, gave a whole generation mere fluff.
Some of them. But these people are heroes. The martyrs most definitely, but then the confessors whose lives exemplified the faith to those around them.

>>the kind necessary for ultimate salvation - is infused through works of righteousness<< So Christs only got things started and we have to work to complete what He started? What blasphemy!

True charity is a reflection of sanctifying grace. Faith and works are two sides of the same coin.
There are enough real points of Protestant/Catholic disagreement without creating straw men to slap down.
—Thank you for this post, written with clarity and charity.—
Thank you. Much appreciated.
No, they are NOT. Putting faith in Christ and ones own works on equal footing, which is exactly what claiming two sides of the same coin is doing, is blasphemy. Jesus told us that works of God IS faith and belief in Him.
Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28-29
Stop promoting the false teaching of the CC that human effort is equal to Christs finished work on the Cross.
“Faith ALONE” is mentioned once in Scripture:
ames 2:24, 26 - “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone... For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.” (see all of James 2:14-26)
By their fruit you will know them...
15Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
FWIW
Now lets continue on beyond the Satanic half truth always put forth.
Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28-29<<
Do you see how easy it is to just ask I wonder what that work means instead of just robotically following the lies of the RCC? Blindly promoting the deceit after having been shown multiple times what Jesus says about that will not end in happiness.
>>17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.<<
OH how true that is. Being planted in the cult of the RCC will never bear the good fruit that being planted in Christ will produce. As shown above the words of Jesus show the false fruits of the RCC which is the wolf appearing in sheeps clothing. Promoting half truth is just what Satan uses but Jesus words will always shed light.
BY GOD'S GRACE.
I'm always surprised when RCs don't understand basic Christianity 101.
RCs - read Ephesians 1 and 2, and pray the Holy Spirit renews your mind to understand the words of God...
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." -- 2 Corinthians 5:21
Seems pretty clear. And something we need to be thanking God for every day of our lives.
But your church teaches that there are many kinds of sin that qualify as "mortal". From the site http://www.ewtn.com/expert/answers/mortal_versus_venial.htm:
This appears to me that Catholics DO say that mortal sin involves actions and thoughts that are not just the sin of unbelief. It also states that a person can be in a "state of grace" but then totally lose all grace if he dies with even one mortal sin unconfessed and he ends up in hell.
That is where I believe Scripture teaches something entirely contrary to that. We can only be saved because of what Christ has done for us. We are not saved based on what we do for Him. God's grace and mercy extend to ALL sin and the blood of Christ makes not expiation (a covering of sin) but propitiation the removing of sin from us. The Greek word is hilasmos and it means forgiveness and appeasing of sin.
1 John 4:10
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
They would rather believe they can have the righteousness of Mary and the saints from the “treasury of merit”
