“A great example of being selfish...”

Selfish? If you choose to donate your organs, skin... body to science then goody for you. You don’t know NoGrayZone; therefore, you have no right to label someone as selfish. You aren’t doing anything to further organ procurement... in fact, you are only harming your cause by insulting other people.

Take your pals to the happy hunting grounds one last time!

I wouldn't have a problem with it!

I can understand that.

Arlington wouldn’t have the same power if all that was there was a sign.

It was good enough for all my people in the family cemetery right up to the Depression era, some were furniture grade wood but most were pine planks, built by family members, with a wake held in the parlor of the house.

But it’s illegal there now, a vault is required. I’d prefer the option of such a burial myself.

"Agreat example of being selfish, to deny someone else possible life."

Please show me a scripture that states we must give our body parts upon our death. And who says MY body parts would allow someone else to live? The only One who grants such a thing is He. NOT me, nor you, but He.

"to donate an organ for someone else to live means a part of you also lives on."

Once I'm dead, I'm NOT supposed to "live on". I'm DEAD. The dead are aware of nothing!

Personally I find it creepy for someone else to have one of my body parts "living on" when I am DEAD.

We all have our “ways”

My Grandfather died when my Mom was 2.

He was a full bore Irishman, and I identify with him, though I never knew him but from hearts.

I imagine it has to do with the body being the temple of the Holy Spirit, in Christianity — I am thinking of old tales, where the dead were always buried in the church graveyards, consecrated ground — awaiting the second coming, no doubt?

Watching It’s a Wonderful Life yesterday, I was startled with the guy in the office at the bridge where James Stewart was about to end it all, mentioning that ‘suicide is against the law in this town.’ Those laws were dropped mostly in the 60s, too — as we moved away from Christianity.

There is MUCH about Orthodox burial you have no clue about, so I will refrain from elaborating further. Suffice it to say that I would gladly donate any piece or part of me that wouldn’t kill me to save someone else’s life...and have done so.
Why wait until you are dead? Isn’t that just as selfish as you claim we are?

Yep, bigotry.

Huh - so heretical, but you said it was just the creeds, not the Biblical passages.

Silly me assuming that a Protestant might actually be biblically literate.

And you don't know of any cemetaries "owned" by the Catholic Church? You really need to educate yourself. There are thousands of them - and my grandmother is buried in one (Holyrood). Google for Catholic Cemeteries and you'll find hundreds in the US. Go walk around Europe and you'll find nearly all churches with a cemetery on Church grounds (and rich/powerful people buried INSIDE the churches). Sigh Yes the ones on Church property are technically "owned" by the Church, but exactly where should the upkeep of the grounds come from? Seriously You pay a one time fee and that pays for years of upkeep, Second as i said and you might want to research most cemeteries are not owned by a religious group, they are privately held

You should reign in your touchy nerves - there's no bigotry there, just your own intolerance of any position opposite that you hold. You refuse to recognize the failings of the Church in the past - and so condemn yourself to support repeating those same sins... by the Catholic Church? You really need

Actually my pointing facts out are not touchy nerves, but you are making bigoted comments, if you don't like having it pointed out stay out of the forums or don't make ignorant comments.

A few thousand were cremated on 9-11.

I don’t believe that was unheard of. Even today, Americans are not uncommonly buried above ground in places where the water table is high, such as Louisiana, and some are buried in mausoleums in various states, including California.

My experience has been that, even with a family cemetery and therefore no cost for a plot other than the annual contribution for maintenance and upkeep, it’s pushing $10k with a modest casket and a modest vault, with a modest granite headstone.

Some municipalities have municipal graveyards, with burial for residents for minimal cost as far as the plot. Some churches offer the same for members of the congregation. I can’t speak to burying numerous, cremated remains in one plot, though. It’s nothing I’ve ever considered, and the practice disturbs me. I’ll cross that bridge if I ever get to it, if a family member’s wish to be cremated needs to be honored. I’ll honor it. Won’t like it, but I will.

Bigotry - can you point where in THE BIBLE it says cremation isn’t allowed?

Funny you shout “Protestant” right away too... Bigoted much? Check the log in your own eye, brother - it’s a big one.

So put up or shut up - or show your own intolerance and bigotry... Where in the Bible is cremation banned? That’s what the original poster asked - and you couldn’t answer that, could you?

>>Because a Church that sold passes to Heaven (indulgences) would NEVER invent a position where you had to be buried on sacred ground to enter Heaven - which that Church also owned. No, never!<<

We’re on a whole different century here. Come with us.

“Not that I know of in the Bible, but I know the Catholic Church sure frowns on the practice.”

Do you know why? I’ve known a number of Catholics over my lifetime who have been cremated for very thoughtful reasons. I sure would hate to think there would be consequences.

It's apparent, so I have seen first hand. ;-)
