A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.
Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

American Protestants read the Bible in the light (or Id say darkness) of individualistic modern American culture. If anything is cultish, its the Evangelical worship of American nationalism. And a notion of self sufficiency that is extended to the creation of one's own theology.
I dont mean to knock the Roman rite, but what St. Paul describes has remained far more explicit in the Eastern liturgies, especially with the epiclesis. I immediately recognized this when I was reading the Greek.
And you are absolutely correct. In the first millennium, Rome was the bastion against herey. In the second, the Greeks regained sanity, and the West has to one or extent or another, fallen short of the mark.
The Priest signs the holy Gifts and says in a low voice: that they may become for all those who partake of them for forgiveness of sins and everlasting life. For sanctification of souls and bodies. For a fruitful harvest of good works. For the strengthening of Thy holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, which Thou didst found on the rock of the faith, so that the gates of Hell might not prevail against it, delivering it from every heresy and from the scandals caused by those who work iniquity, and from the enemies who arise and attack it, until the consummation of the age.
Amen.

The Catholic mind cannot function without believing that all men follow some carnal man rather than Christ.
Exactly. They threw in Mary, also, any man - take your choice - anyone but JESUS - because Satan is clamoring for his own worship, his own kingdom - the wide road filled with his many minions.
It's ALL about JESUS!
One WAY, One TRUTH, One LIFE

Idolatry. Catholicism is paganism. Catholicism is Christianity. Protestants worship a combination of the book and the self. When the book gets in the way, it gets redacted. Paul has it correct when he calls the Church the pillar and foundation of Truth. It is not the image in the mirror.

Scholasticism pushed Western Christendom away from the spirit of Early Christianity.
American Christians tend to forget that Christianity is an Eastern religion. The error of Scholasticism is that God is within our understanding and that his actions can or should be categorized the way we do with plants, animals, etc.
He is beyond our comprehension and is unknowable to us apart from the Incarnation.

Retread, or genuine noob? I'm thinking noob, or retread from some time ago, since I cannot recall or place the individual "voice". But then admittedly, I don't see myself as being any good at accurately detecting which retread is which...

No. I started reading the Bible in light of the Bible. I hadn't even left the Catholic church when I had started reading the Bible, so any preconceived notions I had about it were of Catholic influence.
The Holy Spirit Himself was what enlightened me and guided my reading and then it's not hard to see where Catholic doctrine and tradition diverge from the plain, clear teachings of Scripture.

Really? Does the boss know you think of patriotism that way? Nobody worships American nationalism but in regard to politics, I am not first loyal to ANY foreign power or state, religious of not.
Are you one of those *bring back the sovereignty of Catholicism over the whole world* types? A bunch of them had been banned recently......

Last I checked Protestants and Catholics believe in the Bible, the Trinity, and Christ as the sole path to salvation. Whats the problem here? It probably has a lot to do with refusing to submit to Rome instead of Christ.

The Catholic mind cannot function without believing that all men follow some carnal man rather than Christ. The just cant imagine that we dont really care what Calvin, Luther, or any other carnal man believed. It's conditioned into them. It IS beyond their comprehension.

Exodus 20:4-6 4 "You shall NOT make for yourself
a carved image,
or any likeness
of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

We were wondering as well, and it was discussed on a thread sometime earlier.
Glad we’re not alone in our speculation.
