A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.
Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.
American Protestants read the Bible in the light (or I’d say darkness) of individualistic modern American culture. If anything is cultish, it’s the Evangelical worship of American nationalism.
I don’t mean to knock the Roman rite, but what St. Paul describes has remained far more explicit in the Eastern liturgies, especially with the epiclesis. I immediately recognized this when I was reading the Greek.
The 4th century Liturgy of St. James says:
In the Liturgy of Saint James, according to the form in which it is celebrated on the island of Zakinthos, Greece, the anaphora is as follows:
Priest (aloud): Thy people and Thy Church entreat Thee. (thrice)
People: Have mercy on us, Lord God, the Father, the Almighty. (thrice)
The Priest, in a low voice: Have mercy on us, Lord God, the Father, the Almighty. Have mercy on us, God our Saviour. Have mercy on us, O God, in accordance with Thy great mercy, and send forth upon these holy gifts, here set forth, Thine all-holy Spirit, (bowing) the Lord and giver of life, enthroned with Thee, God and Father, and Thine only-begotten Son, co-reigning, consubstantial and co-eternal, who spoke by the Law and the Prophets and by Thy New Covenant, who came down in the form of a dove upon our Lord Jesus Christ in the river Jordan, and rested upon him, who came down upon Thy holy Apostles in the form of fiery tongues in the upper room of holy and glorious Sion on the day of Pentecost. (Standing up) Thy same all-holy Spirit, Lord, send down on us and on these gifts here set forth,
(aloud): that having come by his holy, good and glorious presence, He may sanctify this bread and make it the holy Body of Christ,
People: Amen.
Priest: and this Cup (chalice) the precious Blood of Christ,
People: Amen.
The Priest signs the holy Gifts and says in a low voice: that they may become for all those who partake of them for forgiveness of sins and everlasting life. For sanctification of souls and bodies. For a fruitful harvest of good works. For the strengthening of Thy holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, which Thou didst found on the rock of the faith, so that the gates of Hell might not prevail against it, delivering it from every heresy and from the scandals caused by those who work iniquity, and from the enemies who arise and attack it, until the consummation of the age.
Since you tell us you were Catholic until age 22, perhaps you can tell us thie: In what part of the mass is Mary worshipped?
Im pretty sure youre not Jesus, so your quoting His words is meaningless.
>>And neither are you!
My point exactly. The raw arrogance on display is astounding. Why not just make every post, “If you ain’t Catholic, you ain’t $h—! Oh, and God condemns you b/c you don’t subscribe to our bureaucracy”? That’s the message every time, and it’s just incredible.
Last I checked Protestants and Catholics believe in the Bible, the Trinity, and Christ as the sole path to salvation. What’s the problem here?
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath. Proverbs 21:24
Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place. Job 40:12
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law. For they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, avoid: 11 Knowing that he, that is such an one, is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned by his own judgment.
Titus 3:9-11
She’s not the Holy Spirit, either, and none of the Protestants are, so they can’t quote Holy Scripture at all, according to MM.
Do you have a personal relationship with Christ?
>>I talk to him every day. :)
Sola Scriptura is nowhere in the Bible.
Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. Proverbs 19:2
You ought to look in the mirror before accusing Catholics of being pagans.
The Jews say you are one if you believe in the Trinity. Not to mention much of your scriptural interpretation was borrowed from St. Augustine who made copious use of Neoplatonism in his theology.
Additionally, Augustines thought led to the development of the theology of the Reformed thinkers including John Calvin, who was heavily influenced by Augustines theology of total depravity and irresistible grace. Other reformers held high Augustines soteriological position on Gods direct revelation to mankind and the powerful psychological notion of the individual self. These themes would later captivate Protestantism and evangelical Christianity.

If I’m a pagan then so are you. :)
Either how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the speck that is in your eye, when you yourself behold not the beam that is in your own eye? you hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.
Luke 6:42
The Catholic mind cannot function without believing that all men follow some carnal man rather than Christ. The just cant imagine that we dont really care what Calvin, Luther, or any other carnal man believed.
Even Satan knows how to quote scripture, and judging by their arrogance, they seem to know him pretty well.
That’s rich considering you don’t take God’s Word as the Final Authority!
If one doesn’t KNOW HIM - they have no TRUTH, no WORD in them. He designed it that way - Spirit to spirit! JESUS is the OneWay, OneTruth, One Life. Pagans follow man and their man-made teachings - right from the pit of hell.
>>I believe in the primacy of scripture.
Pagans follow man and their man-made teachings - right from the pit of hell.
>>Like yourself. It seems that you have a close personal relationship with Satan. It shows in your pride and arrogance.
Does that mean that you think that Catholics should abandon the RF?
No comment is necessary......
Covering for pagans again?
There are many people who believe that they have experienced miracles at Lourdes. None of the Lourdes water is advertised as salvific. By the way, proclaimed ex Catholic, have you ever been to a basilica or other similar site?
